Books: Nineteen-Eighty-Four is my all-time favourite. How un-stereotypical of a right-on Guardian-reading student is that? I dont get the time to really read fiction nowadays, so my reading consists mainly of big history texts. I'm quite fond of Eric Hobsbawm's 'Age of Extremes'. I've started Alan Bennett's 'Untold Stories', but unlikely to finish it. Its very good, though - an autobiography thats readable! I like reading plays too, 'Journey's End' and 'Othello', my favourite. And other literature such as William Blake (visionary). Perhaps anything except perhaps Margaret Atwood (sorry to all the feminists) and 'A Clockwork Orange' (I really think that you need to be high to actually get past the first page).
Movies: Favourite TV shows:Hardly watch the thing now. Full of crap. Saying that I am normally glued to the news stations, the current affairs geek that I am. Yet I am partial to The Office, I'm Alan Partridge, The Fast Show, Only Fools and Horses, Phoenix Nights, Fawlty Towers, Curb Your Enthusiasm - yeah, thats right - comedies. Thats probably the only thing worth watching, to take your mind off all of the dreadful things going on in the world (after watching Sky News solidly for five hours).Favourite Movies: I'm not a keen movie-goer...I lack the attention to sit through a whole movie...but if pushed I'd say 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'The Godfather', 'Trainspotting', 'Taxi Driver', 'Citizen Kane' and 'Pulp Fiction' amongst many. Indeed anything by Quentin Tarrentino. And anything with Jim Carey in. (Except 'The Cable Guy', which was a load of wank)
Music: Well...er The Beatles, (THE MIGHTY) RADIOHEAD, R.E.M., The Smiths, The White Stripes, Elbow, Blur, The Flaming Lips, Manic Street Preachers, Led Zeppelin, Sigur Rós, DJ Shadow, Deerhoof, Outkast, Kayne West, AC/DC, Pavement, Oasis, Joy Division, Bob Dylan, Interpol, Strokes, Black Keys, Boards of Canada, Belle & Sebastian, Coldplay (ONLY their first album), Wilco, Air, Velvet Underground, Doors, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Editors, The Fall, Sonic Youth, Ryan Adams, Neil Young, Pixies, Beck, and lots more. A more complete list is here: http://www.last.fm/user/rockonandoff
Hobbies: Music: listening of; (attempting very badly to) playing it. Reading. Walking. Taking long baths 'til your hands and feet are wrinkled beyond destruction. Headaches. Vanity. Self-deprecation. Politics (well someone has to be). Sports (watching, not playing). Cooking (umm...microwave meals...I can't cook). Most things that are legal.
