The master of New Orleans piano, Professor Longhair doing "Tipitina". You've hardly got a notion about what RHYTHM really can be, until you're listening to Doctor Professor Longhair. If I ever got to go to such thing as a desert island just with one record, probably it would be "Rock'n'Roll Gumbo"!http://www.myspace.com/jaybeerodriguez...............

Jul 26, 2008 - moranshi, there are a couple of sources, including the "Professor Longhair Collection" music book, which is available in several of the internet outlets and eBay as well. Also, Dr. John has a transcription of it in at least one if his "...teaches New Orleans Piano" series. If you have a CD or MP3 of this song, you can use various programs to slow down the audio and pick out notes yourself. Also, there is a MIDI file of a different versoin of this song out on the internet. Not Fess, but good

Jul 26, 2008 - I had heard of Professor Longhair before but had neverlistened to him. I was prompted to look him up on thetube after reading his obituary in the March 20, 1980 issueof Rolling Stone magazine. Watching this video makes mewonder how he gets so many notes out of so few fingerson the keys at any one time.

Jul 26, 2008 - Fess was the master of New Orleans piano, and he always will be...but he can't sing.

Jul 26, 2008 - What goes beyond the title "Professor?" Guru of the keyboard? I regret that I was unable to see him live. The blues piano doesn't get any better than this.

Jul 26, 2008 - Depends on what you mean by singing!! I think he sounds great with his playing. One of the most original of the New Orleans musicians.

Sam&Dave, Wicked Pickett, etc.Well this is what i feel.I am an old retired Funk drummer too!

Jul 26, 2008 - I mostly agree with you. I think that a lot of no-keyboard playing musicians should listen to him with close attention...
