Oct 12, 2008 - I cannot believe people are picking her apart for pronunciation, whether you come from LA or UK...get over it! English is a borrowed language anyway; and it's all regional.

Oct 12, 2008 - If you poke around on youtube a bit, you can find versions of this very same song in English, French, Spanish, and Polish. So here it is, sung by a woman from Connecticut never accused of being a Cajun. Point is not how the words are pronounced but rather how the melody and harmony are interpreted. Beautiful song with a captivating melody, one you never get tired of listening to. They decided to give it their own twist. I for one and grateful for the attempt.

Oct 12, 2008 - I listened closely but did not hear what you did. Pirogue she pronounced as textbook French; she said "ma cher ami-o" well enough, better than most other singers I have heard including Hank Williams, leading me to believe that Karen probably had French in high school. I did not hear any extra "y" on "Yvonne." #4 I could not tell whether she said it correctly or not. Not bad, really, for a woman from Connecticut.

Oct 12, 2008 - some rather classy guitar work in that performance from Tony Peluso (of Goodbye to Love fame). clearly more to him as a musician than just the big fuzz solos.

Oct 12, 2008 - I formulate this in a controversial tone on purpose:This is likely the most shallow and dishonest song I have ever heard. It is like someone wanted to write the most unrealistic and quixotic tune ever heard and since the world is so sad and corrupt that you have to pretend to live in a parallel universe. This is why I honestly think this song is genius, comparable to "All Apologies" and one of my favourite songs.

Oct 12, 2008 - Karen Carpenter wanted to be known and remembered as a drummer. She wanted to sing from behind her drum kit.

Oct 12, 2008 - The Carpenters version of this song is the best one. You go Karen and Richard Carpenter!

Oct 12, 2008 - Tony Peluso, one of the best. If you really want to hear him, hit "Good-bye to Love" by Carpenters. Classic fuzz guitar solo.

Oct 12, 2008 - ok, I like the Carpenters, Karens voice is of the goddess herself, but this version of the song is a travesty.
