Rachmaninov playing his own composition. Prelude C sharp minor. (October 1919)Subscribe to my videos."Rachmaninoff also made a number of piano rolls...he was invited to listen to a master roll of his first recording in 1919 for the Ampico company. Aug 20, 2008 - um, you guys, he's right. this is one of rach's easiest compositions. i mean, it's obviously not up there with his concertos, right? and the middle section of this prelude is just more bark than bite.

Aug 20, 2008 - I'll tackle that year old challenge. :D Grimaud's RENDITION of Rachmaninov's piano concerto 2 conveys much EXPRESSION that may be on par with HOROWITZ. Darn it, I tried; but couldn't remove Horowitz. He's just too powerful! XD

Aug 20, 2008 - WELL GEE. MINUS SIX! That tell you how much you people know about the difficulty of rach's pieces. -.-'.

CarlHalling Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - This exquisite melancholy piece of musical genius is so in tune with our own day and age; it could be said to reflect the complexity and uncertainty of our own times.

OrangeSodaKing Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Um, guys, maybe he has a good teacher and practices a lot. After all, haven't you seen the vid of the girl when she was 12 playing "L'isle Joyeuse" by Debussy? It's possible.

Morahman7vnNo2 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Ya, Buddy Theres A Difference Between Fancy Finger Work, And Having Huge Hands, Besides I Bet That It Will Take Kid Years To Get Up To The Lv. of Rachmaninov, Fats Waller, Art Tatum, Franz Liszt. Basically The Joke Is That Your A Wierdio If You Have Really Big Hands.

opterios Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - What an amazing piece!! And it's funny how I read somewhere that Rachmaninov himself was annoyed by the popularity that particular piece took over the following years!!

lecheparavaka Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - this was on the exorsism of emily rose, when emily plays the piano and the holy man watch from the window... great song!!!

TysonMS Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Can anyone confirm that this prelude is based on a dream he had of being buried alive. That makes this piece 10x freakier to me! It's what I always think of now.

Witt342 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Can anyone give me some advice on pedal use with this piece? Thank you!

dowhat93 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - damn you giant chords

jessmford Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - he must've had unusually long fingers.. i cant play most of the cords in this piece and his piano concerto 2 moderato...

SupahAzn18 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - well it depends on your piano. if you have a grand, then use your sostenuto [middle] pedal. if you dont have a grand, and have an upright or something else, then use your damper pedal, and just half-pedal it carefully.

cmednc Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - man he must've had double jointed fingers man that shit is just ass impossible

blankpaper03 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - haha, his fingers must have been like surgically extended

orleomarty Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - my hand is big enough to play that hughe cords but its not easy D: , but iam beginner, playing since last summer :) just can play first page of the notes :(

aprildog18 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - This piece is torture!! And my piano teacher won't let me do an easier piece.

Aug 20, 2008 - I played this a few years ago and loved it to bits! The 2nd theme on page 2 is my favourite bit. wow!

XPJamieXD Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Started learning this today, fantastic to play first page down =D.

eustazio Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - it's greatly written, you will see once you know the notes by heart (i strongly sugges you learn them by heart) it just falls under you fingers. Dont give up !
