Jul 26, 2008 - zooo cool 13 september 2008 myn dag van schermen

wuhstawop Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - An trained fencer with a real epee will easily kill any other swordsman, even a kendo student with a katana. It looks goofy with the foils, but if they had only shirts and real swords, those would all be serious arterial sprays or damn-near mortal wounds.

jazzyslip Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Well, wuhstawop, although I really like Fencing, the foils they use look nothing like real epees: both in weight and flexibilty... One of the consequences is that a lot of the technics used in "Sport" fencing can NOT be done with a real epee ;) But except from that fencing is really cool ;)!!!

Gypsyeyez90 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - you have no idea what the hell you are talking about. epee fencing is fast. deal with it, moron.

Dragonnite45 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - actully,Wuhstawop are right about how a fencer can kill/beat a kendo student because the rapear(the sword)is actully slicker so it's faster then a normal sword and is easyer to carry, cause it weighs least then a normal sword. The differnece between kendo and fencing i think would be the moves since in kendo,u mostly do swings or so while fencing u lunge, and we all know that lungeing is faster then swinging, lol.I'm still not that good with fencing through so wat i say maybe meaningless, lol Xp

Dragonnite45 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - actully, parrying a lunge is not as easy as it seems. In fencing,ur goal is to strike the enemy before they hit u(or something) like kendo but have u Seen how thin the rapear/rapair is? And u have to be very focus or be able to perdect the attcks of ur oppents cause u know how hard it is to parry or block a really thin metal stick with another metal stick? Besides,if they try to look cool, they would be losing like crazy. If u want to C parrys and other moves, watch kendo

Jul 26, 2008 - some people here looks like the're in their 80's

kanjimasteryugi Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - By the way, As a japanese Kenshi, a katana is more similar to a Saber, not a Rapier. I'm sorry, but a Katana could cut these swords in half with a flick of the wrist. Also, the way the katana is wielded, your opponent won't be in a position to lunge, or even get a good poke in. This is a sport that diverged significantly from it's roots, and what you see is some 300 years of development, not the original.

helianimal Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - they're fencing with a radio antenna from a Ford Explorer. Boring

BuffaloSabres304 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - yeah its not as easy as looks

wuhstawop Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Still, I push that it IS a sport derived from a deadly skill. As wide as the gap is between real dueling and 'fencing' may be, I still think there should be an amount of respect given to the students/ participants. Someone with a real rapier/epee would have done better in a fight having learned some degree of fencing, I would think.

wuhstawop Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Obviously comparing katanas and rapiers is 'apples and oranges'. I merely imply that the sheer speed of a rapier, which is unmatched, makes it a weapon to fear (or atleast respect). A katana is a slicing weapon, and I do agree it would cut a lesser blade in half- if it could make contact that is. A fencer with a rapier would do well to know he simply cannot fight sword-to-sword with a katana. That would be a very interesting duel to watch.

kanjimasteryugi Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - You are very correct. As far as I can imagine it, the Katana developed in Japan because the enemies that they were fighting were too strong to take down with a stab to the torso, sot they got to get sliced apart. The Rapier is a distance weapon, and the Katana is a lesser distance weapon, making the distances work out to be something very odd indeed.

lunchboxafterhours Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - yo should i do fencing or kendo?

lunchboxafterhours Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - can these cut stuff? they look like if i poke somthing thats not tissue paper the sword will just bend ?

SL829 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The foil/sabre/epee(sword) has a rubber thing at the the end so it can't cut stuff and it has no blade

SL829 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Its fun but hard and you have to think all the time about what you're doing

SL829 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - crap, forget the epee thingy

lunchboxafterhours Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - wtf lol thats dumb
