Aug 20, 2008 - Billy Preston went on to a successful career as an R and B/soul artist in the 1970s ("Going Around in Circles" is one of my favorite songs), and Nat King Cole remains one of the greatest singers in recorded music history, black or white. Both have since died - and that's too bad, because they were both talented singers who made a mark on their industry and transcended race lines to do it.

Aug 20, 2008 - What a shame he didn't ever get the recognition that Michael Jackson had piled upon him from the time that he was young. For my money Billy was a far better talent. Incidentally BP was the only one to get his name on a record ('Get Back') alongside the Beatles. I'm glad he was recognised there as the organ break really added a lot to that record. What a talent, and so sadly missed - who is there of his ilk today...?

Aug 20, 2008 - Good performance. Too bad there are no shows like this on televison anymore.
markojameow Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Michael Jackson probably had more aggressive representation when he was young. He certainly had a stage and recording presence for many years; unfortunately, his alleged pedophilia and bizarre behavior has caught up with him, and Michael Jackson's goodwill has been somewhat squandered. Still, Billy Preston had more talent as a singer and, while he did have his brushes with the law, he still gets respect from the music community and his audience.

Russebby Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Billy more like Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder than Michael Jackson. I think it's wrong to lump Billy in with Michael Jackson, because Jackson's talent is something else. He's no musician. He's a song-and-dance man, and that puts him alongside James Brown and Jackie Wilson. For Billy, the piano became an extension of him, just like for Ray and Stevie. One is not better than the other; they're just different and should be appreciated, each in its own way.

Aug 20, 2008 - Interesting piece of history...sweet!!!
markojameow Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder were (and are) up there among the most talented musicians in recorded music history. Suffice to say, they accomplished this despite blindness - Ray Charles went blind at a young age, while Stevie Wonder has been blind since birth. I have a great deal of respect for these two men, and Billy Preston and Nat King Cole, because they were not only talented, but accomplished in other ways.
