Montage of Yelena Mukhina, the 1978 World Champion. She died in Deecember 2006. Sorry if this is kinda sad. I wanted to honor her and her life, but I also wanted to show what happened to her.

Jul 26, 2008 - I remember her well...such a tragedy. I'm sure she'd flying now...just as she used to!RIP, Love. Your faith in God pulled you through.

kashmirpage Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Also...I hope the up-and-coming gymnasts see this video. Nothing...not even an Olympic medal, is worth permanently jeopardizing your health! Please, please keep this in mind! You're not "little robots." You're people, with a future ahead of you whether you do or don't make the Olympics!

Jul 26, 2008 - She die with 36 years old she was very young. What really happen with her?Someone here knows?Sorry about the English

JackBear79 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - SOOOOOO INCREDABLY SAD!!!! Everytime I see a full twisting double back (full in) or a double back off the beam I think of Mukhina. SOOOO SOOOOO SOOOOO SAD!!! And to top it all off, it's a SIN that the roll-out tumbling pass that she paralized herself on, was STILL allowed for a few years following, it should have been banned INSTANTLY upon her accident to make a point that it is just too dangerous. Not to mention her version with an extra twist. :( If this doesn't make you cry, u have no heart

JackBear79 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - It's terrible that Kurt Thomas invented the move, it's a sin it wasn't banned INSTANTLY upon her accident and was still allowed for a few years following, it's a sin that she had to die for it! RIP!!! :(

Jul 26, 2008 - how did she die?

csurvivor7 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - She was paralyzed doing a Thomas Salto. Complications cause her death.

sidsriotgurl Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - This montage is BEAUTIFUL! And the music is so appropriate. I just stumbled across this video on July 1, 2008 and until I saw it had no idea that Yelena had passed away. She was a very classy gymnast. I had forgotten that she gave her own twist to the Korbut by adding a full twist to it on bars. What a champion...Her legacy lives on.

apluskel Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I had no idea she'd died either! Was it due to complications from her accident? I don't remember the gymnastics community mentioning her death...

apluskel Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - but at the same time, you'd have to ban all of the moves gymnasts get hurt on...

slipknotgirl10 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I couldn't agree more. I cried for this

strawberry9572 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I think they should raise the age for competing in the olympics to adult age, 18, because these coaches are training the kids too hard and the parents obviously aren't doing anything about it. The parents and the coaches only care about the fame and money. It amounts to child labor. Watch the "hard gymnastics training" videos sometime.

SandyReis1 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Its sad how this is the only available interview and personal video of her. She died so young, she never had time for boyfriends and life because it was always about gym. But she is now recognized for what she did!

SandyReis1 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - strawberry9572: I think the Olympics should be 16 because 14 is just too young and too much pressure. And also a 24 year old athlete has an advantage over a 14 year old. I do think however in such a difficult sport, THERE MUST BE TREMENDOUS SUPPORT ALL OVER.

briaberger Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - No, a 24 year old is at a disadvantage because 1. you get less flexible as you age2. it is difficult to keep training that hard over a long period of time3. injuries keep most from moving on past the 20'sMaybe you should research gymnastics a little more before making erroneous comments like that.
