May 14, 2008 - Dude, do you know that a lot of bass players got inspiration from Jaco, even Victor Wooten said that Jaco was his inspiration after Stanley. If you're not a bass player and don't know how to play bass better you guys shut your mouth off!!!! Both of them are the best of the best in bass world!
jeff3groove Says:
May 14, 2008 - first of all,I play bass for 27 years now incl fusion.technical music isn't always great to hear I don't like this at all.that doesn't mean that jaco isn't a great bassist!I replyed to flow333.victor and no soul?he is probably a narrow minded jacofan.there are bassgods enough!

May 14, 2008 - all of u jaco and wooten heads need to go buy a guitar and sum hairspray and get that shredding out of your system.if you want a fat bassline, get somebody like Family man,Billy Cox,HUB(theroots) or just ask your drummer what he wants. if you want a guitar solo, get jaco or wooten.look at it this way, do you want to play to delicious round asses or nerdy adolescent boys. trust me, after spending the early 90's learning Seas of Cheese,porksoda...the best thing i ever did happened on the ONE!

May 14, 2008 - Hehe dude, i just wanted to start the discussion like "clapton vs SRV" - I couldn't say who is better, maybe none is - Jaco and Wooten, the two greatest bass players in history (paul jackson also maybe)
pgummers Says:
May 14, 2008 - Just as Hendrix and SRV, there would be no Wooten without Jaco. :)
jeff3groove Says:
May 14, 2008 - I don't think so,vic is born holding a bassguitar in his hand hahaha

May 14, 2008 - If I were to give a Shakespeare play to a five year old, he wouldn't find it amazing either.
benitheking Says:
May 14, 2008 - probably. it's just my opinion.
emphaticleech Says:
May 14, 2008 - John Entwistle did that..
fleafunk121 Says:
May 14, 2008 - So why compare, I personally think that no ones the absolute best. Number one, lots of different types of music out there, lots of different musicians to go with them. I am heavily, heavily influenced by flea. does that in my mind make him the top dog, the greatest. NO , I respect all musicians.
jeff3groove Says:
May 14, 2008 - that's the spirit!peace
tibert Says:
May 14, 2008 - Jaco was the music, his way of playing was a revolution for the bass and the whole music. Perhaps the first one to do such melodic bass lines, and many variations. A great player, great improvisator, great composer, great arranger... a MUSICIAN!!
ClockworkOrangesS Says:

May 14, 2008 - Hi, I recently got Jaco pastorius the album, and I'm trying to learn A portrait of tracy. However I noticed that he plays a D# harmonic [which appears here at 2:14 and 2:19 just before the open E string] I just can't find where it is and have had to do an artificial harmonic to cover it. I watched this carefully and he doesn't do an artificial harmonic! Somebody help please!?
DanielMelton Says:
May 14, 2008 - fret a b on the a string and do a harmonic with your pinky on the Eb (E flat), so fret 2 on A harmonic on 6th. it's a stretch but that's how Jaco does it, you can also do it with an artificial with your right hand.

May 14, 2008 - I think you mean "reach out" (I'll be there} But nonetheless, a brilliant early funk groove! Jamerson was the man!

May 14, 2008 - Rabit?
SrbinBasista04 Says:
May 14, 2008 - Thanks for the help, I looked it up on the tab and ur right. Howeva, whilst I was trying to nail it myself I found that [for me] it's easier to finger the 4th fret on the E string [G#] and then get the D# [5th] harmonic by playing the harmonic at the 7th fret. Thanks anyway though. Maks
jeff3groove Says:
May 14, 2008 - hmmmm,i'm very open to music but I don't like this. it may be technical but it sounds like shit.and fl0w333....wtf?if you think that wooten has no soul than you should go to a dokor to check your ears and otherwise your brain!he has soul and most sertainly groove ,more than jaco!
