Jul 26, 2008 - I've heard that it was more inspired from the original German Sturmgewehr, which was the pioneer of all assault rifles, even though the G3 resembles the FAL in terms of looks. Either way, the FNC is a really solid, accurate and reliable weapon, even more so than the G3 (in my experience that is). Too bad both of them are heavy as a mule though.

Jul 26, 2008 - Yes the FN FAL was based off of the STG.44.Heckler and Koch have a habit of taking FN weapons and upgrading them in a way.My father used the G3 in the Portuguese Colonial War while his Portuguese Comando friends used the FN FAL.So i have a mix of both weapon systemsBut yes they are heavy.

Jul 26, 2008 - Had it not been for the M16's habit to misfire and jam because it needs maintenance and cleaning to function properly, it would have been the best of the three. I would say the Ak47 is ideal for close quarters combat and prolonged military expeditions in a hostile environment, because of its reliability. The G3 is not suitable for automatic fire but more like a support weapon, perhaps it would work well with a 2-round burst mode despite its mule-kick recoil.
