May 10, 2008Here's part of a day in the life of the diamond in Opelika, AlThe first train in the shot is northbound CSX Q-614 coming from Montgomery, Al and heading to Atlanta, Ga. The train ends up getting a stop signal at the north end of Opelika due to the approach of eastbound NS 336. The NS train also got a stop signal and after the conductor took a peak at the CSX signal on the north side of the interlock, he made his way to the signal box to manually have the signal cleared for his train to move. After getting the clear the NS train proceeds over the diamond as the conductor of CSX Q-614 walks his way to the north end switch of Opelika siding to line the track for southbound CSX A-746 (of which I had no idea was right behind me). After the southbound CSX train cleared the switch and the conductor punched the signal box, Q-614 continued its journey north. This is a great example of Opelika action at its best. The only think missing is a westbound NS to give this diamond as much of a workout as it can get.Enjoy!

Aug 20, 2008 - Thanks a bunch man. I believe that's AC traction at its best. They had them horses runnin full out before the wheels even started moving. If I'm inspiring you then the favor is being returned. Most of the type of and way of shooting comes from ideas you've touched on (hence the other RAM video). Thanks for the complement stagmie & see ya around!

Aug 20, 2008 - I have a part-time job working every other Saturday where, fortunately, I have been able to watch videos from hoolg, stagmie and others. I live in Lineville, AL but plan some daytrips this summer, maybe starting with Opelika and the diamond in this awesome video. Would like to meet with some of you and will do likewise if you wish to come to my part of the world and show you around. Lots of good action here since sidings lengthened on CSX Lineville Sub.Trainman46 "Ray"

Aug 20, 2008 - I believe I can speak for the others and know I speak for myself when I say I'll gladly show you around the area. Just give me a bit of forewarning before making plans. I've got a 2 week old (as of writing this) that gets most of my attention these days but I can break loose for a peace to catch a train. Just let me know. Send me a PM if you want some contact info.

Aug 20, 2008 - Ok, thats a catch seeing BNSF in hillbilly country! We are starting to get a lot of BNSF up here in Ohio on the NS now, anybody care to tell me why. thanks. Also UP is showing up on CSX up here more than before. HMMM merger?
101airbrne Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - One other quick point to make this was great video. Most rr videos are soooo boring, you have all the elements of a good video on RR. Also most videos the guys are getting hard ons over a train horn or some shit and all they want to see is some engineer waving to them. Its funny becuse when we rail fan we are about 8 ft from the main line and we use lounge type chairs witha cooler and the trian people laugh there asses off. Who said you have to endure the heat without comfort.
roasted420 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - With the big railroads merging, it's not uncommon to see UP, Conrail, and BNSF engines on NS trains and CSX trains here in LEX, KY. ALOT of mainlines interact now with the recent mergers/acquisitions.

Aug 20, 2008 - Great video! Excellent camera work, looks great in HQ. Got a lot of real good railroad action on this one. We get a lot of similar stuff on the wye in Hyattsville since the mainline is double track but the branch is single. Catch a lot of stopped trains like this.
