Aug 20, 2008 - Problem is not YT. The available footage has a horrific quality. This is all the moving image we are left with of Carmen. I wonder what happened to the original footage. But our love for Carmen is unconditional and enjoy watching her even with poor quality.

Aug 20, 2008 - That's not entirely true. I have seen the footage shown in other YT videos (like "Follow the Boys" or where she is tapping on the table) on PBS and the quality was superb and you could see the precision. YT degrades resolution to save disk space.

Yes about YT, still this original footage here and the other ones available than have been circulating on videotape are terribly distorted. "Maria de la O" has just a little more decent quality.

Aug 20, 2008 - After I posted it I realized it wasn't shown on PBS, but on this channel on cable in Boston that simply showed short films all day of arts and culture. I don't remember the name, but it was 100% noncommercial, sort of like CSPAN.

I have never been interested in Flamenco -- just because I never thought of it. It reminds me very much of Indian dancing but more modern and masculine.

Aug 20, 2008 - Siento vergüenza porque de los 21 comentarios que hay, unos 15 están en otros idiomas que no son el español.Tan poco amamos lo nuestro que las nuevas generaciones no saben ni que existió la inmensa Carmen Amaya. Gracias a quien ha puesto el vídeo. A pesar de los problemas técnicos, se ve perfectamente que esta mujer tenía el duende del arte dentro y la ocupaba de los pies a la cabeza. Qué obra de arte.
