When "Great Southern Land" was released as the first single from the Primitive Man album in 1982, a video for it was filmed in a disused sandstone quarry in the Kuringai National Park near Sydney. Then, in 1989, when the song met its first release as a single in North America and Europe, a new clip had to be made to accompany the overseas single. This time, the background Australian landscapes were provided by the Myall Lakes National Park on the mid-north coast of New South Wales. As befits the song, both clips were, of course, typically Australian in content, but the earlier one did feature a few Australian native animals, including a large goanna crawling across barren sandy earth. This latter typical Australian had obviously won many fans, since, when the new clip appeared there were quite a few appeals for "the one with the goanna." The result was that both "Great Southern Land" clips had to be included in the commercial video released in 1989. (www.spellbound-icehouse.org)

Sep 7, 2008 - Look joostisabelle if you don't like Australia then don't come to a video on youtube that *is* Australian and start bagging out this wonderful nation. Go crawl back up your mothers dirty, vapid cunt, i'm sure she wants your filthy corpse stinking up her hole!

joostisabelle Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - I like Australia, i just don't like inbred, semi-literate, chest-thumping, subhuman thugs like you ...but please don't take it personally.

ConArtist6660 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - ooo nice one, i like how you just instantly started insulting me when I'm just trying to get you to stop bagging out Australia. And you cant say that you don't hate Australia, I've read your comments. I just don't get it.

joostisabelle Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - oooo and I like how you backed out instantly after my retort. A classic weasel posture. You insult first ..and then back out immediately with your tail between your legs upon encountering just a little bit of resistance, ...and then deny you even insulted me. Finally you try to change the subject. What a cop-out.There you stand: a wannabe bully, exposed and ridiculed

Sep 7, 2008 - It's true. I've been living away from home for a couple of years, and this always makes me miss it.

Blashada Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Thats so true about this song making you home sick, but thats how great it is because regardless of the fact that it was written over 20 years ago It still has that timeless effect on people, and thats what makes it so perfect. Not many songs have that effect on people.
