Rick Burgess, of the Rick & Bubba Show, took the opportunity to speak at the memorial service for his son William Bronner Burgess (also known as Cornbread on the show). Bronner had accidentally drowned in the swimming pool at their house. Rick delivers a powerful message showing his family's strong faith in God and helps us to understand what we can do to honor his Father and his son during this earthly tragedy. This is part 1 of 3. Check out www.rickandbubba.com for more on Rick.

Aug 20, 2008 - God bless you Rick and Sherry, i've been a listener since you were in Gadsden, and I keep you in my prayers for your loss of your son. Praise God for your faith, and how God has helped you in this earthly tragedy.

Aug 20, 2008 - Rick, Your faith is such an inspiration! My mother lost an infant, and the hole it left in the family was unspeakable. I come from a strong spiritual family who knows the Lord. He helped my family get through that tremendous loss. Keep your faith and your love in God. You will be stronger in the end. God Bless You!

Aug 20, 2008 - We have friends who lost their child 4 years ago and it was so hard for all of us to deal with it. She was a young woman after God's heart. He called her home on morning. The loss of her left a gaping hole in our lives, but with the Lord's love we know that we will see her again one day. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. The Lord is great and he has blessed you with a wonderful gift of sharing the good news that we all can be with him too. John 3:16 Praise God!!! for U

Aug 20, 2008 - I lost a son in Huntsville in 1993. It was one of the worst hurts that a mother can experience. I think about him every day and I have to admit that his death changed my life. Thousands of homeless people have been given a second chance because of his death. Isaiah 40:31 stuck with me and gave me strength and it will for you. I have listened to you and know that you are leaning heavy on the God you serve and our prayers are with you.keep leaning on the everlasting arms of God

Aug 20, 2008 - I feel so bad for you and love the show. But I couldn't imagine losing my child, but spending the whole time talking about Jesus. Why don't you honor your son ? Not a mythical religious figure.

meagirlz101 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - We are still praying for you and your family. We love you all and hurt with you.May God bless during this time.God is using this situation for his kingdom.

robspana Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - (rumplins) did you ever stop to think that maybe because he is living in the truth that Jesus is the one that he is drawing his strength from. If we would supress the truth like yourself than how much more tragic would this story be. What would be the point of all this. The fact that this man can stand on the stage and not crumble under pain and anguish is a testemony to the power of God.

75rick Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - rumplins, thank for you concern for me and for your love for the show...i would like to give you a few lessons on how to be decent in situations like this......during the time of a family grieving the loss of a child, one should wait a while before handing down critique of the core beliefs that are holding the family together. I find the fact that you consider JESUS CHRIST a mythical religious figure not only to be historically ignorant but much more sad and tragic than the loss of our child.rb

dutchmcgee101 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Uh, he's a born-again Christian. And Jesus Christ is real and He wants to be your Savior cause Hell-bound sinner. Read John 3 and Romans 3:23, 5:8, 6:23, and 10:9-13. Revelation 3:20. There's plenty proof of Jesus Christ.
