Aug 20, 2008 - is this some kind of ritual song. what up with the masks?
fattie8701 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - its from benin but some of it is also from the nigeria - yoruba language
jayespamer Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - what a pile of crap
naomijeune Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - If you don't like it, it doesn't mean it's crap! Wake up people, we all have different tastes, and music like this shouldn't be degraded just because it doesn't rock your boat! For your information, this music video won a Grammy Awards back in the 90's! So there u go. Now, who's the pile of crap now?
naomijeune Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - The mask theme in this video is from West African folklore. It's not a ritual song, the mask itself is a popular or somewhat an iconic figure from Benin dating back to 13th Century. Most of these bronze statues were seized by the British. Most of them can now be found in British Museums as we speak! This Artists is just doing her best ti resurrect these piece of stolen history! Turn off the TV and read people! Read more, and stimulate your mind. Ignorance is like a plague! it corrodes mentality
naomijeune Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - She's from Benin Republic. The dialect she speaks is 'Yoruba'- a dialet from West African 'Yoruba People' in Nigeria.
2255346 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - listen to my missy or who ever you are, you don't know if you have master's degree in history, but know that it doesn't give u any right to insult anybody and for you info, i do read jus because some one doesn't know about a song doesn't mean that they are ignorant. there are things that u don't know about and other people do know about, that doesn't mean that they will go around tellin u that you are ignorant. if u don't have a good answer to a question, shut the fuck up, and don't reply.
Hacknell Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - You're lost and completely trapped in the grip of ignorance. I have no advise for you, but to leave you to your demise! I can assure you one thing though, you'll definitely get a 'smack-back' from life if you carry on with views like that.
cocolahtay Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - they have yoruba people in Benin Republic. The British and French drew the borders not us
Hacknell Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Absolutely right! The Oyo Empire (Yoruba Land) stretched from now today 'Nigeria' to places like Benin, Togo, Ghana before the colonial invaders sliced them up!
lilranasty3 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Could people just watch the video and enjoy its art?!dammmnnnn!!!and they are not wearing thongs...God!!!!people should open up their minds a little bit more and enjoy what different people from all over the world have to offer, in terms of music and Art.
2255346 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - hacknell, thank God for your brain that knows every thing. but I can assure u i will never get a smack-back. u know why? because I don't tell people of ignorance. I try by best to help them improve their knowledge, and i also learn from people, not insult them. u see these other video responses that are on youtube, people kindly reply them, they didn't send them with insults. anyway, good luck in future, i hope you make a better world out there, Brainiac!!!!!
Hacknell Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Your sarcasm amazes me! But anyway, it seems like you automatically thought I was referring to u? Tell you wat? I was referring to a comment made by 'jackthemonkeypotc' (4 weeks ago) "uggh! fat africans in thongz smelly? smelly!" and if you feel it's unfair for me to reply to this person like I did, then you're missing a point as well. Otherwise, let's put our differences aside and enjoy some good African music with some palm wine. Much love.
2255346 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - I'm sorry Hacknell, Noamijeune replied to my question the other day telling me about ignorance, so i thought it was her again using a different name. anyway, let just forget ignorances and enjoy the music. thanks for replying and making me understand. you rock!!1

Aug 20, 2008 - great song, great video. I have 3 of her CD's, including the CD that has Agolo on it.I saw her live once in Montreal, and I had the pleasure of meeting Angelique backstage. She is very short which suprised me, and extremely nice. She gave me a big huge hug when I mentioned that I was a fan and owned a few of her CD's. I'm glad folks can view this video here. It's one of my favorites from the 90's.
