Aug 20, 2008 - 19 years later and this performance still holds up technically as one of the best from a U.S. pairs team. The side-by-side jumps were second to none. The forward inside death spiral was text book. I would love to see McLaughlin and Brubaker use that death spiral in a future long program.

Aug 20, 2008 - Her skating (boring) plus this decision to dump Rudy confirms to myself some valid reasons to dislike her as much as I do.

azsk8fan Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Another couple who could, with just some practice and sharpening of their skills be #1 would be Yuka and her husband Jason. I found them incredibly talented as a pair team almost from the git-go considering how short their actual time together as a pair team was before they skated together publicly as a team. They could certainly be right up there at the top or close to it.

Aug 20, 2008 - Her decision to drop Rudy, was indeed, very inconsiderate.

azsk8fan Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I think pairs should make a commitment to each other to stick together - the only reason I would say to split would be if it was evident they weren't going to amount to much or if one of the partners wasn't putting their 'all' into it. In their case, based on their performances, it was obvious that had what it took to go to the top - it also seems apparent neither one was shirking their responsibility when it came to practice and putting their 'all' into it-She was wrong to dump him that way

Aug 20, 2008 - *sigh* sour grapes. kristi made the right decision. she made watching professional competitions exciting and wonderful during her pro era! i agree.

starquasar1 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Like what I had said before, yes she won gold and everything what does it say about her personally?

ShaefDawg Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - It says "go for the gold." Kristi would stop at nothing to achieve her Olympic dream. As for the sport, it was a right move for Kristi. During the 1988-92 quadrenium, the US was looking for another young darling to take over the likes of Debbi Thomas and Tiffany Chin. Apparently, Jill Trenary was up to the task. But injuries and the lack of technical difficulty held her back. Tonya was a powerhouse that could've matched up with Midori...

ShaefDawg Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - ... but Kristi's artistry really set her apart from the powerhouses. It gave us another angle to look at besides all the triple axels Midori and Tonya were performing. Plus, she was performing two triple lutz' in her program (which really helped technically). If you notice Kristi's spins, she's been changing edges in her spins back then too. Lots of difficulty there :)

starquasar1 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - That is exactly what I have been trying to say just gold.

bassethound1 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Remembering coach Jim Hulick.

NOWALUSA Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Yes, I do believe that decision was too very inconsiderate of her... but that again, you can expect anything less orientals. They will do whatever it takes to get over. BTW, she has no personality and I'm still surprise she can see left or right.

hopeful1188 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - you are a very ignorant person

malheureux001 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - they were such strong singles skaters.does anyone know if there's a deduction for the skaters spinning/jumping in opposite directions? it looks awkward to me

preciouselk Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Kristi said it was a tough decision to make, but her single's coach moved to Canada and she had to follow her. She was with her single's coach since she wa eight years old. And plus Rudi and Kristi were 5th in the World's Championship two years before the Olympics. She and Rudi knew it would be difficult to make it in the top three for the pairs. She couldn't concentrate and improve in both (the singles and pairs), so she decided to focus on the singles. It was the right decision to make.

Aug 20, 2008 - Stupid comments like this give American a bad name. At the least, she brought Gold Medals to USA. What have you done for your country other than generalizing the orientals?

Taiwanensis Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I actually like it better.

grafgirl27 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - What is amazing is to think Kristi was labeled a less athletic skater because of the triple axels of Harding and Ito. However she was doing 7 triples a program, 2 triple lutzes and a triple lutz-triple toe which is just incredible difficultly, and was very consistent with all except the salchow to boot. In any other era she would be considered to be setting the standard technically too. She had consistently harder jump content then skaters like Slutskaya who are considered very athletic.

starquasar1 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - All I can say is that this is the most beautiful pair skating I have ever seen. I just wish they would skate again.

kamwrites Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - No deduction. Actually more difficult.

nightfairy12 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I actually didn't know there's mirror skating..After I search about it I was so happy that I cried...haha:P
