The breed didnt come until the romans settled and ended up mixing the war dogs with local cattle dogs.2 lines descended rotts and leonberger.So rotties wrnt used by the romans in the colluseium it was a diff breed. The rotts then bcame used to herd cattle in germany and protect the proceeds of a days sale 4 butchers hence they were called the butchers dog not the woodcutters dog
