In the 70's, Rainer Wehinger created a visual listening score to accompany Gyorgy Ligeti's Artikulation. I scanned the pages and synchronized them with the music. Enjoy!

Nov 18, 2008 - the visual/audio synchronization is very effective, you can almost feel that those shapes should sound like that :)

Nov 18, 2008 - This was done in 1958. He sat before a desk stacked with metal boxes and all their knobs and switches. Each box processed the signal in one way. Envelope followers, lfo's, all that stuff. He had to manipulate the sound in real time with no keyboard . Steve Reich and Tomita were really good at this too. It's nice to see people still appreciate this weird stuff.

Nov 18, 2008 - Although I'm very grateful to d12d34c55 for posting this video, it's actually impossible for me to really appreciate the music if I'm watching it. These noises form a physical experience, they open different parts of my mind, it's a travel through different times, spaces, textures. But if I'm watching this score, it becomes a travel through a primitive playground with plastic toys, which are a little bit interesting and funny, but more like annoying.I hope this helped a bit, zebeautiful.
