This video is intended to SCIENTIFICALLY MINDED PEOPLE, and serves as a philosophical debate. Please, no creationism. What do you guys think would happen to man kind in the next few millenia (or even much less..)

Nov 18, 2008 - First of all, Evolution is not about a single creature, but rather species.Secondly, Synthetically made food, or modified foods don't unnecessarily mean our bodies wouldn't be used to it. It only happens when new chemicals are introduced. But if the same chemicals/proteins are synthetically made, it would be treated natural foods.Cancer isn't a new disease. It has been around for a long time, its just that people didn't have the lifespan to get its full effect.

beliserius Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Also, i do not believe we will go extinct anytime soon, however, if we destroy our ecosystem, then yes. Extinction is a great possibility.Or if some catastrophic event happens that destroys our ecosystem, extinction is also eminent. The quote from jurassic park is half right. You cannot fight nature, because you are a part of it. Everything is a part of nature, no matter how we alter it, destroy it, kill everything, nature is still nature. It will always exist, because it is everything

XkurosakiiiiX Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - that is very interesting.. hmm

Gallumbits Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I've been looking up information on topics such as "mass extinction", because I was interested in the fact that there have been five of which we know of. There are several sources that state that we are now in the process of the sixth. Something to think about.

Nov 18, 2008 - sometimes the (world) adapts to things like people by things like the ice age it has to re boot it self somehow

Venaloid Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I agree with this possibility. I have thought about this very same thing for a long time now and I think that because of minimal selective pressures and the fact that neearly anyone can stay alive today no matter what their genome, that humans will destroy themselves someday simply by being human in the mental and physical aspect.

Nov 18, 2008 - cancer is more previlant because people are living longer it is being noticed more because its being diagnosed more.in the developed world there is very little natural selection, ppl arnt dieing because of being genetically unfit so we are seeing the beginning of an accumulation of bad genes

M3T4LH34D812 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - CO2 needs to be dealt with, We have clear cut forests for civilization, adding that mass to circulating CO2 lvls, and the secondary effect of that area reflecting latent heat because the trees are no longer there to stabalize the CO2 . Increased CO2 and increased latent atmospheric heat is bad for humans as carbohydrates which the latter can both alter in unnatural ways, are the basis of life as we know it. We must find a technological means to mimic the biosphere function of vegetation or...

bigstiggerNo1 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I have lots of thoughts now. About 25K years ago humans evolved much like us! We had a great war and the earths atmosphere was reduced by half. Even the bible tells you that. We used to be about 7 to 8 feet high. May be cancer is here because of the lack of oxygen. Hows that for starters?

polish121 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - My ideas of that is pretty simple, humans are the new ballacing mechanism, We give life, we take it away, improve it, degrade it, I would say the only ballance is how ballanced we decide to change this world.

Aeon135 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - very interesting and philosophical, but aare u right? now thats philosophy:D

Aeon135 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - i think the changes will be so gradual we wouldnt notice and see much change, and i dont think cancer is that new, and it depends wat kind, some comes from the sun/radiation (skin cancer), others may be new, but i suppose thats not a philosophical answer, its scientifici can only hope we will evolve so much that we shed our physical bodies and accend to a higher plane of existenceow, sry, thats Stargate

Piff343 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - You can't look at evolving as good or bad; it just is. As for our species dying, that is inevitable. Every species dies off eventually. If our changes in life style in the last millenia is leading to our exctinction, there isn't much we can do about it.

ReeseTora Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - The pressures that guide natural selection are decreased or removed from humanity, so there's nothing to push us in any direction. We have medicine and technology that allow most people to live beyond reproductive age, we mold our immediate environment to suit our traits rather than allowing our traits defining if we can survive well in an environment. I think that only sexual selection remains as a pressure for the majority of the population.

ReeseTora Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - If anything, and if the current situation holds true, we may evolve into a sort of group organism where there are different types of humans, those who lead, those who create and advance knowledge, and those who breed(sort of a genetic specialization into politicians, intelectuals, and stupid people), but that may just be my cynicism speaking.

krispy3d3d Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Interesting idea! You certainly do see an increase in specialization within our species, so maybe, like some insects, we will eventually diverge and, if not end up with different "classes" of humans, maybe end up speciating as well. Think of the political ramifications of that scenario, with genetically specialized leaders deciding the fate of the masses; my guess is that anything too divergent from the masses will be destroyed, ending the further possibility of continued specialization.

suboreo Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I think humans are going to evolve for the better because as uncurable disease like cancer continue to pop up in humans , there is cutting edge technology like nanomachines that could theoretically be injected into the human body that could easily pinpoint the growth of a tumor on a human cells than current technological methods for targeting cancerous cells. Even though humans seem to be eating process food that can in the long run be harmful to the human body, the human condition is better..

suboreo Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - ... than it was 80 years ago , when the average lifespan of a human being was 50 years old. At the end of the day, for humanity sake, I rather have humans manipulate nature , rather than have nature have complete control over our fate. Not saying that humans can abused nature, but humans are better off when humans are in control of nature rather than the other way around. If it was not for man exploiting nature resources for himself, we still be walking bearfoot and living in caves.

evilspawn4848 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - i believe that our environment is changing to quickly for us to evolve fast enough take the past roughly 80 years for example back in the 1930's our technology wasn't NEAR as advanced as it is today and in 80 more years the exact same thing will be true so evolution isn't fast enough to match our lifestyle i do believe our brains will strengthen but our body's will weaken but none of that matters if how Einstein explained gravity is true because the earth will eventually get close to the sun

zeebrow Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - i think the real question you are begging to ask is answered best by knowing that people are aware of their surroundings, but our bodies know only what we've seen, touched, felt, etc. This is why we remember things: our brains have evolved to record feelings, thoughts, etc. therefore how much we know is only subject to how much we strive to know (learning- inheirently different patterns among us but all doing the same thing)

Sepero1 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I can guarantee you that we will look different no matter what happens in our diets. ;)Personally, I think humans will extinct themselves over the long run.Cancer is not new, it is simply- badly mutated cells. There is a possibility that environment has made cancer increase.

likegrace Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - expect an abrupt climate change within the next few decades (weve seen in the past that cliamet change is abrupt and can happen within decades) and the social-economic impact of this will be profound. There will be a huge population crash followed by a long period of harsh enviromental conditions. Can we adapt in time? i dont know. evolution accerlerates in whne the pressure on natural selection is high. recnt increase in average height not a change in phenotype thats becuz nutritional changes.
