Aug 20, 2008 - very good, for anyone who doesnt knowfirst he wedges out the clay to get rid of any air bubbles then centers it and begins to widened it and checks the bottom because it needs to be atleast a quarter of an inch. He then lifts and collars the sides into the desired shape.I wish I was half as good as you lol, I suck

Aug 20, 2008 - I'm a handbuilder and sculptor hoping to try some throwing soon. I have a feeling after watching a pro like you I will be sorely disappointed ;). You make it look effortless and I fear I may have some craptacular pots in my life for many years before I ever get to where you are! Thanks for sharing.

kcabal Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - use to much water :d

knottyboy Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - The use of water is a trait that is honed from years of experience and personal choice. It's nothing to criticize since the finished product is what's important.kb

lucyrosed14 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - yea, dude you use whatever water amount fits you....me and you throw pretty similarly...im obviosly not as experienced though

soupatwork Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Does the fact that the wheel seems to be wobbling a little bit offset the centering of the finished product?

snoopdog68 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - That looks like good fun, I have used metal and wood lathes for years but never got a Chance to throw clay..

dentederequin Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - i wanna throw some clay one day looks awesome and hard!

IrisATdb Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - senior citizen here... I am having a hard time coning the clay, you make it look effortless. Should I have softer clay, or do more wedging?

victorr761 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - i just started today at school its so hard lol

jemrey1963 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Great job! Beautiful bowl. Thanks, also, for the explanation at the end.

gizzard33 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - It could be that you need softer clay, but if issue seems your physical strength, check to see if you're bracing your elbow against your leg. You can put your elbow on the inside of your knee or thigh, and use that to anchor your arm. Your arm doesn't have to stay still on its own strength. You can even push just a little with your leg.

IrisATdb Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - ty for taking time to reply to my question. Do you have a pottery demo on here also? I need to watch them all and hope I learn something!

gizzard33 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - No, I'm just a fellow learner! If you are open to advice: a good way to learn as you watch these videos is to observe the body positions and movements. Try to watch the person's hands more than you watch the clay. And then also, watch the whole body, not just the hands. You can even imitate the movements as you watch. Then practice what you saw with clay, and find out what works for you. Also, relaxed concentration, or "intention" is important. Happy Throwing!

IrisATdb Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I do enjoy watching the videos, do you know of any that are recorded so that the viewer is "looking over" the potter's shoulder? Then my brain might not be so confused with right and left hands! Yes..I do have problems..lol

irockntalk5 Says:

azt3c Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - hey dude, i have a question, what temperature it has to be for the pottery cooks ? and after that how much heat it can tolerate ?sorry for my English, if you can send me a private message. cheers

speltalyons Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - What is your bat made of? All the bats I've seen are flexible. Also, since I am the epitome of the "starving artist," I wondered if I can create the throwing bats out of various other things that are not necessarily expensive materials...thanks for the video--it was quite helpful.
