jrheilig Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The cone is a static air source, commonly fitted on test flights of new aircraft. They had not yet calibrated the pitot-static system, so the trailing cone is used to get accurate static air from a relatively undisturbed source. Boeing uses the same system on prototypes.

Jul 26, 2008 - love this plane and the new a380,,,but dont have a chance to ride with this,,huhuhuhu,,couzzz Philippine AirLines has only a340-300,,

yogabba08 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - wait, if the first flight was in "01" then that means airbus rolled out two phenoms this decade, the a340 and a380, while boeing is still trying to roll out the 787 and then here comes airbus countering with the a350! this is why airbus kicks ass. I would fly an a319, a320 and the a321 any day before a 737 that is I choose jetBlue and Spirit out of NY rather than Southwest.

Jul 26, 2008 - vorticies

thomsonfly645k Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - it was on 23-04-2001

condor786 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - What do you mean by "boeing is still trying to roll out the 787". It's already done since 7/08/2007. And be aware that the 787 will be operational much before the A350. Please do some research at least before writing whatever.... No i'm not a Boeing fanatic... I prefer the B777 over the A340 but prefer the A350 over the B787..though we r still waiting to see a piece of the 350 after Airbus struggled to deliver the 1st 380.

Jul 26, 2008 - i have flown in a a340 at least 4 times. very nice plane

quercous Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I love flying, and have flown both Boeing and Airbus a large number of time both short haul and longhaul. all i can add is that i have found the Airbuses to be the quieter of the 2 . 747-400 more comfortable ,but the A340-500, just humm.

Aceflyer8473 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Also made in the UK. (The wings)

MoebiusGer Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - jepp, that`s right! sorry. a340 is based on a demand of Lufthansa (TA11 project-twin aisle) in the year 1981. a really elegant and progressive airplane
