From the candidate's website:"We must build a world free of unnecessary barriers, stereotypes, and discrimination .... policies must be developed, attitudes must be shaped, and buildings and organizations must be designed to ensure that everyone has a chance to get the education they need and live independently as full citizens in their communities."Obama's comprehensive agenda to empower individuals with disabilities fits in with the campaign's overarching message of equalizing opportunities for all Americans. In addition to reclaiming America's global leadership on this issue by becoming a signatory to -- and having the Senate ratify -- the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the plan has four parts, designed to provide lifelong supports and resources to Americans with disabilities. They are as follows: First, provide Americans with disabilities with the educational opportunities they need to succeed. Second, end discrimination and promote equal opportunity. Third, increase the employment rate of workers with disabilities. And fourth, support independent, community-based living for Americans with disabilities.http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/awdplanThe National Autistic Society of America does not endorse any political candidate.

Aug 20, 2008 - I agree that many people sell their votes to politicans for corrupt reasons. Look at the corn farmers and ethanol, this is causing many problems all over the world for the benefit of a few. Humans have evolved to be social creatures, for us with aspergers syndrome this lack of "social skills" is a great problem. This really is an unnecessary barrier, and needs to be addressed.
PerunsAxe Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Let me explain. It is common for people with Aspergers syndrome to have a spatial impairments as far as intelligence is concerned. For me this shows up in a 35 point gap in verbal to performance IQ. If someone was to restrict my access to a career where a high visuospatial intelligence is important, then I would not have an issue, because this is essential. For me to suffer based upon my social skills and obsessions is not just. This is where I will use my political freedom.

Aug 20, 2008 - Two of the people I love most in this world have autism, and I am offended by some of the ignorant comments in reply to this video.Barack Obama is a class act, and we should get behind him and build for a better America. Anyone who doesn't agree belongs in a "metal hospital," right, hq2345?

HiWithanL Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - People with disabilities need a president that will support them and not cut the funding to the programs that give them the supports they need to exist. To many families have to leave their jobs to care for a child or young adult who has a disability because there are no programs or services for them after they graduate from High School. Too many young adults feel they've lost everything after they graduate because of the lack of opportunities to coninue their education and socialize.

Aug 20, 2008 - wata ???? Autism is a depreciation of the cognitive and body ability to work. This concept envolve a lot of painfull trouble. It is not funny at all!!!!
aspie101 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - No, it affects social interaction.
JonahTorn Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - I have hears Einstien may have had both autism and Tourettes at the same time. I have Tourettes myself and I find that over stimulation is a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I actually feel people near me from accross a room. I forget what that is called, but I have two videos on Tourettes "Poetry of Tourettes" and "Tourettes Thunder" if anyone wants two learn more about another Spectrum Disorder like autism & aspergers.
JonahTorn Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Do you have your own Business or a job where you need to interact with people with disabilities.

Aug 20, 2008 - Are things any different in New York (I actually do know) and did Hilliary Clinton have anything to do with what it is like for poeple with austim in new York for better or for worse? I really do not know, but she did try to work on health care as first lady, and I remember the hope. Now look at where we are today.
Progo35 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - How will Obama avoid medical rationing that other countries with universal healthcare have bought into? And why did he say that he supported removing Terri Schiavo's feeding tube when he says that he wants to support those with traumatic brain injuries? I want answers to those questions. I do, however, strongly admire his committment to IDEA. It is very often ignored and needs federal funding NOW.
ischlopischlo Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - It's no epidemic, it's the diagnoses...The vast majority of autistics are people who you might see on the bus every day.About 20 years ago, none of them were diagnosed because they weren't pervasively disabled. For an example, Steven Spielberg is autistic by todays diagnostic critera, but the diagnose he have DIDN'T EXIST before 1995.
ischlopischlo Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Famous people close to and on the autism/ADHD spectrum (they are closely linked) include mozart, da vinci, einstein, bill gates, steven spielberg and loads more.
kalacaw Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - I'll keep you in my prayers and I'm voting for you. I've been a loyal citizen of the U.S. for fifty years, but since I have been disabled, I've been little more than a target for ridicule and exploitation. With certain notable exceptions, I've been left for dead by relatives and many friends. A family in Australia loves me and wants me, but my own nation does not. I will never abandon my love and devotion for our precious Constitution, but I am not wanted here now. My heart is shattered.
PerunsAxe Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - This thumbs down has to be the most ridiculous feature of youtube. I play devil's advocate to the libertarian position by promoting substantial freedoms and a more Rousseau type system that sees freedom in political not civil society, and the best they can do is just try to silence me with the thumbs down. I wholeheartedly agree that there are abuses in the system we have now as far as politicians pandering to their constituents for votes, but it is a complicated issue.
