Jul 26, 2008 - from my observations: > the male is always strutting upon the female,> he is always near her,> she feeds her,> she grooms her,> he goes after suspecting males that will steal her away from him,> finds a good nest > and, then they have eggs and chicks... hehethat's just from what i had experienced from watching them... peace... PS... if i forgot something, please add comment to Basketballthug1... Thanks...

Jul 26, 2008 - not exactly, ... chicks, while still in their nest... they groom... outside their nest, they groom... if they are seen kissing, then, almost for certain they had mated.. (kissing means, that the male fed the female)One sign that they either had mated, or they will have to mate...

Jul 26, 2008 - omg a pair of my birds did like exactly the same thing and my female layed a bunch of eggs that all cracked....but now shes taking care of some of them...when they hatch is there a possibility that she'll push the babies out of the nest?
parakeetl0ver Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - how long does it take for the babies to hatch and does the daddy take care of them too??
Basti711 Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - i don't think so... she'll take care of them i'm sure...
Basti711 Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - 18 days i think for the eggs to hatch... the male only feeds the female and the female feeds the chicks inside the nest. When the chicks are out of the nest, the father then usually feeds them until they can fend for themselves.

Jul 26, 2008 - how many times can a female lay batches of eggs and is it fine if other parakeets occasionally go into the nesting box when the female is out?
parakeetl0ver Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - is it true that parakeets with clipped wings can't lay eggs?
budgerigarr Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - oh my god no. They can lay eggs with clipped wings or not!
nestlemarie Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - A female parakeet will continue to lay eggs if you keep the nest box in the cage. This, however, is not good for her. It takes quite a bit of calcium to produce the eggs. I would say no more that two nests of eggs. Also, it is not advisable to let other parakeets in a female's nest box. Other female parakeets can be quite vindictive when it comes to breeding especially if they have not paired off with a male. They will break the eggs of females that are already incubating.
