Aug 20, 2008 - My goodness. A realtime raytracer in 1993 without ANY accelerated graphics. And a particle system. This puts almost all of today's game industry to shame.

Aug 20, 2008 - This was the first demo I ever saw....it blew me away back then (around about '94), and it still impresses me now.

Aug 20, 2008 - Simply : it's art !I was able to ran this demo on my Cyrix PR166 ( 133Mhz ), it was so impressive regarding games in these early year of 3D Game ( Commanche, X-Wing for example was not so beautiful than future crew demo )

Aug 20, 2008 - Where can you find a real-time raytracer? If you are talking about the "sword sequence" at 6:45, it is not raytracing. It is a pre-raytraced background image and table calculated during "ten seconds for transmission" used for scrolling the sword image with reflection. Nice, but not very difficult. One of the best demos ever made though.

Aug 20, 2008 - Aaaaaah, the good old days of assembly coded demos. Plasma, infinity tunnels, rotating textured cubes, delerium effect, gourad shaded flying sequence, gaudy 256 color deluxe paint artwork, and lets not forget that good ole fasttracker music.Great for its time, tho.Go download & watch Lifeforce by ASD or Masagin by Farbrausch to see how the technology & the artwork had advanced.

Aug 20, 2008 - Wow. I've never left a comment on youTube but this gets my first. You just took me back to 1994. Cheers!

Aug 20, 2008 - holy crap this is awesome. I remember having this up on my BBS back in the day lol.
soopahsoopah Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - is that the original music? I wouldn't know since my PC in 1993 was far to crappy to have sound. Could barely run the damn demo! (but it did :)

Aug 20, 2008 - this is the demo that made me hook my home stereo up to my pc. used to turn off the lights and watch it with the volume blasting.future crew are gods.
albertsandberg Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - yeah, it's the original music alright.

Aug 20, 2008 - There's a bit of info on Wikipedia.Didn't realize members of FC were responsible for 3DMark and Max Payne, although 3DMark is kind of obvious.

Aug 20, 2008 - music rocks ass!
HdPI Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - I can't remember how often I watched this demo back in 1993/1994. It was so fascinating and the sound was so mindblowing (together with the gfx)... damn. What a great time.
tacky187 Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - To put it in context, this was the same year that Doom came out. This was revolutionary for its time.To think they pulled these graphics and effects off with no video hardware acceleration or OpenGL/D3D APIs is just mind blowing.

Aug 20, 2008 - I almost cried....

Aug 20, 2008 - Nostalgia. EPIC DEMO! I didn't buy a GUS back in the day, but wish I did!!! :) Ran this on my original 386 hardware... damned impressive in those days (in the dark, speakers loud in the back room of my house).CLASSIC. Love the tunes!

Aug 20, 2008 - Yes, and Triton made FastTracker and XM file format...Any demoscene group in 80,90 was great! Actually the best for me is farbrausch!
