Jul 26, 2008 - rule number one, you should not forget it...keep your hands up, no matter what...then hit your competition as fast/hard/good as you can...!tkd rocks
waterswind Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - a lot of kicks that knock people down also do knock them into unconsciousness at least at the competitions i've seen
waterswind Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - because their arms would break probably a lot of those guys kick like a horse
waterswind Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - if you put your hands up your body is open and a kick in the stomach or kidneys can still knock you down as well as the fact that your arms weight and muscle is minuscule in comparison to that of your leg and as such your leg will smash their arm into their face

Jul 26, 2008 - You got a point by saying that arms weight and they maybe open there body but actually it's not..... With your hands up you can atleast avoid direct hit to the head..... but of course I'm just a kickboxer and not a taekwondo player so i'm just concern more on "hands up, chin down" method. Anyways,, that's just my opinion.....^_^

Jul 26, 2008 - i too dislike how the hands are down, at my club we are encouraged to keep hands up even in comps u dont have to keep ur hands down in tkd its justs a bad habit
TKDrulezzz Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - But in my opinion, I experienced that it is hard to land a proper high kick with my hands up... But that's just my opinion. I think everyone has to fight like it seems the best for him or her. (srry for my bad english maybe...)
laurenceconyas23 Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - ^_^ not that bad actually,,,,, TKDrulezzz,,, I think I must agree by what you said that it's kinda difficult to execute high kick properly with your hands down,,,, cause come to think of it, TKD focuses more in speed and accuracy right?? ^_^
TKDrulezzz Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - Yeah, in the first place you need to hit youre opponent, how hard doesn't matter that much :p
TKDrulezzz Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - btw, I take part in MMA fights for 3 months now, and there I need to protect my head with my hands. I think it's because punches u can block with youre hands, but if u only have the risk of being kicked, like in TKD, u better let youre hands down to protect the trunk because the chance that youre hit in the face is alot smaller... :p

ThrugsterThrug Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - Well the pros keep hands down to encourage opponent to attack.. but yeah, at my club we're always told to keep our guard up. But that's sparring without the body armour; different rules. The style differs I guess.
