Spandexiscool Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - They should adopt the following: "Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations...
Spandexiscool Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - ...But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it." and let people decide for themselves instead of scaring people into blindly following them.

Aug 21, 2008 - Its true..its not a religion as it dont have Believes in it..and also its not a philosophy even..philosophy gets hit by the time but teaching on human life, sansaara..is not that its almost there..Buddha just showd it opened the eyes..lighted the dark world to see that...so its a 'Dharma'.. Now lets think about a fruit..it has a birth, changing existance and the deterioration...its a Dharma... not a philoso or a religion, Buddhism is like that.

Aug 21, 2008 - Find a School of Buddhism that is suitable for you. Start right from the beginning like playing the piano. Many people try to advance too quickly and are then even quicker to criticise. lol.

Aug 21, 2008 - i dunno why richard gear and these others are focusing on tibetan buddhism. i mean modern buddhism comes from china. and china introduced buddhism into tibet.

Aug 21, 2008 - what exactley is your point andrew ? that poeple from different countries or ways of life cant follow or practice buddhism ? that goes against everything that buddhism is about.
kingjaypee8982 Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - a selabate monk at that
andrew3656 Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - My point is that the past few months with this so called "free Tibet" joke, has really warped the idea of Buddhism. I find it funny when Richard gere gets put on TV as an authority on Tibetan Buddhism, making such a massive deal out of it when Tibetan Buddhism is like 0.1PC of Buddhism as a religion. Put another way, its like me as a Christian making a documentary and having 1.5 hours of 2 hours devoted to the 7th Day Adventists or something.

Aug 21, 2008 - Hi Andrew,Thats bcos He joined Tibetan Buddhism. Hardly are there any that can bring a common thread to all branches. It was Indian Pandits that brought Buddhism to Tibet n most famous is Padmasambhava. The Tang Princess came later and helped to further Buddhism's cause. Chinese Buddhism spread to Japan, Korea, Indochina & SE Asia.Unfortunately, many think Vajrayana is all Tibetan n forgot Shingon in Japan & China's Tien Tai that maintained the Secret School.
plwk Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - If i m not mistaken, we are all results of both wholesome & unwholesome karma otherwise my human body is not possible and instead wallow in the 3 Lesser/Evil Destinies. So the concept of original sin doesnt work in Buddhism for this reason and all are bearers of own karma and no proxy.Your present is more important than the past and future. Its now or never..metta.
Sanallio Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - me too. and I don't state Buddhism as a religion. I think it's Philosophy
