The 1971 Hit by The Canadian group The Bells - "Stay Awhile" Sung by Jacki Ralph (Jamieson) and Cliff Edwards.Jacki is still active in music and fund raising for the Canadian Cancer SocietyI could not find any images of the group on the web. If anyone has some, please let me know! Until I find the right images to go with the music, I'm going to cheat, and use photos of people who are unaware that the whole world can see them at 17 & 18! I remember that all the class photos were shot in the back room of the school library by the same photographer, in one or two days. Driftwood seems popular for those guys without ties. I also remember having one taken with my letterman's jacket on... that would have been cool. The yearbook covers at the end have the name of the school blocked out, but show the style. If you think that you know someone in the photos, drop me an email and I will tell you if you are right.Yes, your comments are welcom, with Approval.I just can't believe my tie was that big! At least purple shirts with white ties were "out" by this time. I am the first guy shown. I'm also wondering what happened to that hair? Well, I wish that I knew what i know now....when I was younger!Stay AwhileThe Bells(Jacki Ralph & Cliff Edwards vocals)(Ken Tobias)Into my room he creepsWithout making a soundInto my dreams he peepsWith his hair all long and hanging downHow he makes me quiverHow he makes me smileWith all this love I have to give himI guess I'm gonna stay with him awhileShe brushes the curls from my eyesShe drops her robe on the floorAnd she reaches for the light on the bureauAnd the darkness is her pillow once moreHow she makes me quiverHow she makes me smileWith all this love I have to give herI guess I'm gonna stay with her awhile[Harmonica]How it makes me quiverHow it makes me smileWith all this love I have to give youGuess I'm gonna stay with you awhileHow it makes me quiverHow it makes me smileWith all this love I have to give youGuess I'm gonna stay with you awhileStay with you awhile[Whispered]I guess I'm gonna stay

Aug 20, 2008 - Hmmm... First time question! *L*No that I am aware of - and I have never heard any gossip in that direction at class reunions. Two have died - one shortly after graduation in a car accident and the other, of cancer.Several of us are still single - or divorced and never re-married... There were 55 in our class. Several photos are missing - I hope to re-do it soon and add them.We did have a gay band director in high school though... I was clueless at the time!

Aug 20, 2008 - My class was in Minnesota, also about 50 students, divided into the braniacs/nerds and party animals. I did a balancing act. A couple of my classmates killed their livers and one died in a motorcycle crash. Two are university professors and one worked for NASA. Almost all of us married; some of us divorced. We had two lesbian teachers who lived together. Some gossiped, but they were tolerated. Every school had a gay teacher. Most didn't stay long. Classmates? Two gays, one lesbian, I think.

SinoYank Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I meant my remarks about gay teachers to regard small towns, not schools in general. I think the boredom and loneliness of the gay teachers is the big issue, not harassment. I'm not gay so I can't say. Small town life can be boring for many people. There were many gays in my school. Some were comical, like Paul Lynde, and others were serious and aloof. My next door neighbor was into Alice Cooper and had a python named Yvonne. He lives in Vegas now. His mother won't let him bring his lover home.

SinoYank Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - There was one kid in my school's class of 1976 whose nickname was "Burned," for obvious reasons. They say he just disappeared not long after high school and nobody has heard from him since. His family believes that somewhere around the US, his body was found but never identified. Those who graduated around 1976 had a lot of drug problems, I recall.

Aug 20, 2008 - Man, you guys had color pictures, I knew we got shafted, but then again, I graduated in 75. We even had manual typewriters!

murphicus Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I think that our class photo collage of these shots was the first color one on the wall...For those who went to big high schools - our class photo that got put on the wall of the school was made up of 55 wallet sized photos. That might be tough with 500 in a class!

Aug 20, 2008 - We had half manual and half electric - with 2 IBM Selectrics that we rotates using. We also had a computer terminal! In 1974 our school got a teletype that connected to the U of Minn by phone modem. It was in the photocopy room in the Admin office. There were like 3 of us who used it - better than study hall! *L* I remember playing nuclear war vs Russia (way before War Games!) and a library of ASCII art of Playboy centerfolds! *L0L* So I was among the first high school students to download porn!

Aug 20, 2008 - I guess JC Penny has the same clothes in all parts of the country! *L* It's amazing how we survived with so few choices back then!Another thing I remember that you would not find these days - the photos were all taken by a Mr. Caulfield - in the back room of our high school library - I think within two days. There was not comparative shopping, he was THE photographer. A nice and very funny man... His sons have continued on...

Aug 20, 2008 - Oh wow, I was so sure no one would remember this song. The Bells came into my Uncle's service station one time, after the song had come out. Driving a car with an old horse trailer packed with their gear. I sure wish I had gotten some pics with them.. but I do have memories of really nice people who gave a kid the time of day.
