This is the infamous "Marijuana" sketch from the early 80s comedy program, FRIDAYS, in which Andy Kaufman appeared to get into an on-air brawl with the cast and crew, including Michael Richards. The entire 2 and 1/2 hour film is now available as a FREE download from my website, subcin.com

Jul 26, 2008 - did it 4 the lulz

vslyke Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I truly think this was Andy protesting the stupidity of the skit. I mean the idea is awful and the lines aren't much better. Andy is the skit.

vslyke Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Gotta love the guy who screams "foodfight" at 5:13.

waroneverything Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - WOW look at larry's hair LOL

bobgee1999 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Wow, I'm glad I never watched this SNL rip-off, it looks truly pathetic.

celtickimba Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Andy was funny in his very early things. But this was selfish and un-professional.

lapsus5 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - it looks so phony and acted now. Why does Michael Richards go to the left, out of Andy's view to get Andy's cue cards? Andy's cue cards would be on the right and to Andy's front and not his rear.

ste43 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - it was staged, that was scripted the whole thing

pedrothebassman Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - hey - it's kramer vs latka!is it just me, or could this have come straight outta seinfeld? with maybe jason alexander instead of andy kaufman?

0seinfeld Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - just a very plain idea once he gets the 'breaking the frame' hint.you can definitely see that richards is a reputable 'professional' from here. but kaufman's playing to be stoned 'in reality' on the basis of an action that is supposed to have taken place 'on stage'...whether or not you want to praise richards for having followed kaufman, and thus whatever judgement you give to kaufman's behaviour or 'art', what kaufman did is a different kind of fabric.

airdriver Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Actually this show had it classic moments. Around this time, Saturday Night Live really sucked because the original cast had left and the new people hadn't found their niche yet.

airdriver Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - If there was one thing about this skit that strikes me(other than the obvious)was that it captured how uptight, snotty and rude yuppies were in the early eighties. Looking back, that was a decade that truly sucked overall.

torgman Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I forgot how juvenile the humor on "Fridays" was.

IdleOz Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The cards have all the lines on them with certain colors highlighting certain actors. Richards went and got his cards, probably because he knew his lines. On a live show, one would expect to act with a certain amount of professionalism.

insomthegreat Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - If kaufman was black they would have...

itmsjim Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Outstanding observation! I've read that it was a set up many places in the media...and that it came out as such. But you confirmed it. Thanks!!

Ebolacrash Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - because the cue cards had everyone lines on it , so in case someone lost there place they can see where they are at also andy was supposed to have had dialog when he came back from the bathroom

2ltben Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Kaufman later admitted that this WAS a hoax (like everything else Kaufman ever did). Man on the Moon didn't quite get that.

blightsmite Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - would have what?

causticarmadillo Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Kaufman's windup significantly improved an incredibly lame premise for a sketch. "they've gone to the toilet... to smoke pot! ho ho ho!"*cue catcalls from the crowd*

BonelessSausage Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - But not everyone was in on the joke. So some reactions are real. Ed

NorcrossMedia Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The sketch sucked anyway, Kaufman's twist was much better.

BernixChapman Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - awesome.

rhythmandbluesix Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Seemed more awkward than funny.

ZomBrad Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Actually, the sketch originally COULD'VE been funny....sort of like I love Lucy with the Vitavitavegamin....only stoned, instead of drunk. But that aside.....I like how the waiter keeps serving water in the background, as the sketch goes to hell, lmao.
