This Video was made in honor of Eight Belles. She was the only filly in the Kentucky Derby. She came in 2nd but to everyones surprise fell over after finishing. She had broken both her front ankles and was increasingly painful. She was euthanized immediately. RIP girl. We love you. By the way, any bad comments will be removed unless backed up by proof.Comment and rate pleasehttp://sports.aol.com/story/_a/favorite-wins-kentucky-derby-in-tragedy/20080503183509990001Honors for this video (thanks youtubers):#27 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - Canada#16 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals#62 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - Germany#8 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - Canada#26 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - United Kingdom#51 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - Ireland#10 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals#22 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - Mexico#54 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - Italy#38 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - South Korea#66 - Most Viewed (Today) - Pets & Animals - Brazil#92 - Top Favorites (Today) - Pets & Animals#62 - Top Rated (Today) - Pets & Animals#24 - Most Discussed (Today) - Pets & Animals#92 - Most Discussed (This Week) - Pets & Animals#34 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - Canada#32 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals#80 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - Mexico#65 - Most Discussed (This Week) - Pets & Animals#37 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - Canada#33 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals#75 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - Mexico#49 - Most Discussed (This Week) - Pets & Animals#87 - Most Responded (This Week) - Pets & Animals#19 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - Canada#87 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - United Kingdom#54 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - India#20 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals#48 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - Mexico#49 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - Canada#82 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals - India#44 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Pets & Animals#57 - Most Viewed (This Month) - Pets & Animals - Ireland

Jul 26, 2008 - directly or indirectly, humans kill the animals.

ragstoriches4myhero Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - A VERY SPECIAL ONE DizZyDeag!!! :(

FireGirlG Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Accident are gonna happen anywhere, even in pasture. It's unnavoidable.

horse5racer5 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I race standardbreds and I know that horses race because they love it,not because they are forced too, believe me it is awfull hard to make a horse race til you make it fun for them. That is what they are bred for and they love it.

Titanicheartshorses Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - That is true...and unfotunatley no one can keep that in mind

BitterSweet2525 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I wish more people understood thatNo matter how many times I seem to tell people that they can't seem to grasp it. Those are the people who obviously don't connect with horses on any real level

animalover9242 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Yes, but when You race a horse that isn't even phisically mature yet, your kind of asking for trouble.

FireGirlG Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Yes that's true, I'll give you that one. And I'll admit that's one thing that I would get involved in to try to get the sport to change. I would like the 2-year-old racing year eliminated. But that being said, these accidents are still going to happen. Maybe not as often, but they will. It's just the nature of the beast I guess.

pinkybammer Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - thank-you for making this video...my friends owned Eight Bells and every time i see a picture of her I cry... so thank-you for making this video...

numberonehorse Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - EdudLufetips...I didn't say they enjoyed that I said they need some way to have a constant running routine and racing is the only thing we have for them.

EdudLufetips Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - wow... what a truly considerate species we are

lol4lfe Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - For those who can't understand why people race horses, or why the horses race think of it like track, why do people run? Because we love it. Horses are not dumb creaters, they might not have as much reasoning ability as us, but they are still highly intelligent. If they didn't want us to ride them then they wouldn't let us. The only thing making a race horse run is its bond with its jockey and its love for the sport. Racing horses isn't like cock fighting...

Ruffian4Ever Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - But did you guys know that in July of their 2 year old racing season, a horse born in February would be the equivalent to an 18 year old person while a horse born in June would be the equivalent to a 16 year old person. There are teenagers competing in professional sports all over the world

FireGirlG Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - But they're ridden as yearlings, and trained hard before they race. I'm not convinced that that's good for them.

Ruffian4Ever Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Most teenage professionals start before they are even 10 years old. As yearlings, thoroughbreds are taught the basics of the saddle and bridle, and most 2 year olds now dont start until later in the year. 30 years ago they started racing in spring or early summer, yet they didnt break down as often and had longer careers. What is up with that?

FireGirlG Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - First of all, to compare humans and horses is not wise. Anatomically, it's an entirely different scenario. Horses are 1000+ lb. animals running on legs that at their thinest points are as thick as a human wrist. Secondly, racehorses have always broken down. It's always been around. And I haven't seen any research that proves that it happens more now than it did before. So I'm not entirely convinced. What I think is happening is that when a break down occurs, it is much more on the forefront...

FireGirlG Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - because of the media and the technology today. And it may very well be happening a little bit more. I don't know, no one seems to be able to prove it though. And if it is, I'm starting to agree with the theory rooted in the breeding trends today. I think it's very possible that many breeders are more focused on speed than soundness. But again, that hasn't been proven either. And if it is what the problem is, it's going to take years to fix it. Regardless however, I still think that they're...

FireGirlG Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - run at too young an age. And I've heard many a horseman and trainer stand by that as well.

thequinman4 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - pinkybammer: I feel so bad for them! I cry and i didnt even meet her in real life! rip Eight Belles

songtruth Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - pretty song. poor eight belles. what a tragedy. i balled my eyes out for 20 mins. when she died. i never met her either, thequinman4. :(

songtruth Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - who sings this pretty song?

horsegal121441 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The song is called Bell, book and a candle by eddie reader

songtruth Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - thank you!

numberonehorse Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I know you guys may believe by now that I am one who supports racing, but I completely don't. I hate what the people do but the horses have no other way to run their hearts out. They need to wait a couple more years to race them and let them be horses and fully grow.

EdudLufetips Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - you really truly believe that ?? by your argument, horses loved going to war in the days when soldiers were on horseback. oh i get what you're saying, if the horses didn't love dying for no reason, they wouldn't let the soldiers take them into the battlefield. they must have loved getting lacerated, shot, and blown up. cheers my intelligent buddy
