Google it for more information. Basically, they will be cutting my top jaw, and bringing it forward. And then cutting my bottom jaw, and bringing it backwards. They will also be taking bone graft from my hip and placing it into my top jaw. I will post videos of this as best I can. I am having this surgery at the Mayo Clinic of Rochester, Minnesota, where I live.My mother will be assisting me in taking a few pictures every day before, during, and after my surgery to show you what it looks like.Again, thank you for viewing. My e-mail is sicnor553@gmail.com if you have any other questions.Also--the date I recorded this (May 22nd) is the day of my girlfriend and I's 2 year anniversary! I love you hun!

Aug 20, 2008 - wow! They didn't consider this to be a "cosmetic" surgery? Was your case special in a way that it was a real medical emergency that required the surgery to fix or did you just simply got it paid for ONLY because you're a full time student, no questions asked? My insurance won't cover the surgery at all because they consider it to be cosmetic unless I can't eat well or breathe. that's why I'm asking. I'm Class III, just thought I'd mention. Thank you!!! :[

sicnor553 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - When speaking with my surgeons, I made sure to only ever complain about the inability to do all of those things. I never mentioned cosmetic reasons.. And always when asked, I responded "This is for functional purposes only.. Not cosmetic"

Casuconsulto42 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I've been told for years that I needed this surgery done to fix my bite. I always refused, horrified by what they had to do. I've had braces for about a year and a half with rubber bands, but it's not working so I've pretty much decided on having this done. Your videos have made me feel so much better about getting this done. I admire you for taking the time to document this, and responding so kindly to so many comments! You're such an inspiration. I hope my results turn out as good as yours.

Aug 20, 2008 - Thanks again!

cosmolilly Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - wow. no idea why they would tell you that it's cosmetic. Your jaw needs to be aligned properly for health reasons otherwise it an cause erosion, grinding and alot of other stuff. Surgery is JUST as important as the braces themselves, they go hand in hand! Mine was covered by medicare (I'm in Canada but medicare is government and not a health insurance through work-so at the least it should be covered by insurance) Go see an orthodontic specialist not a regular oarthodontist. Good Luck!

Aug 20, 2008 - I'm going in for this surgery in 3 days.I'm a cleft lip and palate patient, and I have a major underbite.Watching your videos and seeing how far you progressed really makes a difference for me. It loaded a huge weight off my back and made me ready. The biggest thing I notice is your voice, I have a voice similar to yours in this video, and was wondering if it would change after.I must say yours drastically improved and I'm really looking forward to it!I may even post my own video!

aznshrimp90 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - whats an overbite? and how do u if i have it?

jagenigma Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I too have an under bite, a condition that I knew about before I even went to a dentist. I have had it for 5 years. I haven't been able to do anything about it because of the fact that my mom's health insurance doesn't even cover it. That really sucks BIG TIME. I can't even bite into anything properly and because of that, my bite is too small. Thats also one of the main reasons my confidence is shot.

DamianColucci Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - An overbite is when your top teeth goes too far forward compared to your bottom teeth. It should be pretty obvious to tell if you have a mirror.

DamianColucci Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I have the same exact issue as you. I had my surgery for my underbite caused by my cleft lip/palate last month on July 3. I just got my jaws unwired yesterday, but they're going to keep the splint on for another two days. Eating and talking is pretty hard because I havent done any movement for the past month lol. How are you doing with your post op?

aznshrimp90 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - my top teeth is forward my lower jaw a litle bit does that meen i have an overbite?

cocacrazy88 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - So far my post op has been alright, just ready to get these wires off. I have another post-op appointment in two days, where I most likely won't be getting wires out, but who knows, I've been a fast healer so far. After a few weeks my swelling is almost completely gone, my lips have been going down the quickest lately. But most of all I'm ready to feel my new bite, hear my new voice, and eat everything in sight. Haha I miss eating solid food so much, I want to eat everything.

blueboyic Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - i have been considering having this surgery done for my underbite. last time i saw my dentist i mentioned it to him in passing when i was there for another matter. he also mentioned braces and a reverse facemask as a possibility. anyone know anything about that? if i do in fact require surgery, what is the best way to present it to insurance to convince them that i need the surgery for medical purposes?

NickZeGreat Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Well most people have that. It's just because usually the top teeth fit on top of the lower teeth.

elano11blumer Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - you're like Michael Phelps lol

rainbowbabe Says:
