Jul 26, 2008 - What happen to the left winglet?
AskMeWhyNot Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - I'm a Jamaican and don't even fly Airjamaica. Thats b/c they too damn cheap. I bet Butch Stewart (the owner) knows the wingtip is missing and he's just praying that the FAA doesn't notice it.
AskMeWhyNot Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - Don't get me wrong, i love Airjamaica, love the colour scheme and the beautiful air hostesses but it needs better management.
PrestonjayChicago Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - OK, I can see that the A340-300 CAN fly without its winglet, but I don't see HOW it was allowed to fly without it? I have seen older models of aircraft, like the B757-200 get fitted with the winglets, maybe because of the damage they had to swap with an older wing while the new one is being repaired?
shabutiexxx Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - The A343 was allowed to fly because the missing winglet does not interfere with any essential systems or operations of the aircraft. The greatest issue caur\sed by the missing winglet would be decreased range due to increased drag and decreased lift. It would be more critical to swap out a winglet on a 757 because their normal range is usually less than anything in the a340 family... causing greater limitation in capabilities without a winglet.

Jul 26, 2008 - Reminds me of the old Boeing 707s which didn't have the winglets. Pity that was a narrowbody plane but air travel 30-40 years ago was quite rare compared with nowadays.

Jul 26, 2008 - I took a notice of that. Since it doesn't affect the maneuverability they don't need to keep the plane on the ground waiting to be fixed. I guess.
