Let the intrepid explorers of the Leeds Historical Expedition Society take you on a tour through some of Leeds most secret places, Here we follow the course of the Meanwood beck as it runs the 2 mile culverted section, The beck runs around & underground some of the oldest most neglected parts of Leeds. Discover some of the city's most secret subteranen underworlds as we traverse right under the bus station then underneath the railway viaduct on New York street where we can even hear a train rumble over head. The tunnel then turns left & heads to where we emerge at the river Aire in between Crown point bridge & the royal armouries! The L.H.E.S team for the day were Dave H, Sam H, Basher & myself phill.d, We are a proffesional exploration team & must remind you that these places are a potential DEATH TRAP to the inexperienced...DON'T GO DOWN THERE you might not come back out!! Jul 26, 2008 - This is brilliant. I've wanted to go through the beck tunnels myself for a long time now, I live in the area and have always been interested in this stuff. Great work, watching ths is the next bext thing to being in there.

philldavison Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Yeah you get to keep your feet dry too Gizmomagick. Check out my flickr photos, there's a boat load of beck tunnels on there!

Jul 26, 2008 - my mate used to have a garage off meanwood road, penraevon avenue. I used to look over the back at the beck, i once suggested following it but no one was up for it. Could you go all the way from adel woods to the river aire? Also the branch behind the roscoe, does this go towards gledhow valley woods? Great vid anyway!

philldavison Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Yes you could walk it from Adel but it might be a fight through the undergrowth.. The walkable culvert starts at Buslingthorpe lane... Yes the Roscoe setion is the Gledhow beck, we followed it in half way but it was a very small boring section.

Jul 26, 2008 - i wouldnt do this unless all were armed with some sort of weapon and each team member was able to fight hand to hand if needed...dont know what or who you may encounter...friend of mine "hobo"ed with a friend and ran across some "unfriendly" characters, until they was convinced that it be to their best intrest to just walk away, which they did...also you dont know what type of toxic sh1t could have been dump down there, stay on the train tracks, safer and cleaner !

Jul 26, 2008 - I was going to ask where abouts in Leeds they were, then I heard him say we're just below the New Roscoe pub.

4709mwbb Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I worked on the City station when that was being refurb'd and that is riddled with tunnels.
