She couldn't speak English until she went to school, and taught me some German as a child.My wife was born of a Hungarian father and white Russian mother who met on the ship when migrating to Australia in 1950. Their common language was German (my MIL speaks seven). My wife always spoke German with her dad till he died prematurely in 1988.
