Aug 20, 2008 - I don't know a lot of dj's, but which are the ones that use headphone cues to sync the beat. i remember hearing someone explain how they would sync up the next beat before hand. even tho i love hiphop i still find it uncomfortable to ignore late beats sometimes.

Aug 20, 2008 - D J Shadow used to live in Davis California, and filmed the video "Midnight In a Perfect World " in Sacramento, California. The Store "Records" was on K Street, in downtown Sacramanto, near the Capitol. They have recently moved to Boadway and 16th, near the Tower Theater. But still a great record store, for hard to find vinyl.Don't let the mom and pop record stores die due to down loading music files/mp3's off the internet please.

Aug 20, 2008 - I simply don't understand "Outsider." Shadow's found-sound style doesn't seem conducive to the overpowering vocals delivered by his MC's. Hip-hop is kind of flat -- there is no tension, it tries to retain the same energy at the end that it has in the beginning. This is fine, b/c it's usually meant for the dancefloor anyway. But Shadow's at his best when he, in his own words, builds steam with a grain of salt. Tension, pressure, narrative, movement; that's the stuff that I missed on Outsider.
