Jul 26, 2008 - He began balding in his twenties and wore a series of toupees for his entire film career, but it's funny how those hairpieces of the early 20th-century were so much more convincing than the later ones, or the ones today.

Jul 26, 2008 - Astaire actually started his career with his sister in 1905, aged 5, and had his first bit part in a movie in 1915. Thats why he was so incredible, he by the time he had his biggest hits in the late 30's to mid 40's he had been doing his thing for 35 to 40 years.

Jul 26, 2008 - In gingers autobiography she said she came up for an idea for a little dance entrance they should do at the academy awards before the presentation. fred and her enter at different parts of the stage and when they reach each other fred would give her a couple of spins leading her up to the microphone. Hermes and Ginge conviced him to do it and & on this entrance they got a huge applause & yells for more. I wud love to see that moment!

YNGR Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I love the shoes Ginger is wearing when she puts her footprints in the cement at Grauman's. Shoes in the '40s were so cute and flattering to the legs, and didn't look like the instruments of torture that stylish high heels look like now.

frazzled41 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - It's wonderful to see all these newsreels - wherever did you find them? Are there any more of Fred? The bit in France was amazing, and the Stagedoor dancing, and with Delly - WOW! But what happened to the sound at the Oscars?

MrNatashaRostov Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - You can find lots of newsreels on britishpathe . com and movietone . com. Sorry, there was no sound on the Oscars clip.

fredangin Says:

MrNatashaRostov Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I haven't seen it anywhere, sorry.

BernardProfitendieu Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - they left out the part where Joan went home and slapped her kids around after her team lost to Ginger's at the polo grounds.
