Fatih Terim "THE KAISER". (Turk Futbol tarihinin Imparatoru!)Fatih Terim, Commendatore OSSI, (born September 4, 1953 in Adana, Turkey) is one of the most successful football players and managers of Turkey. He is considered to be one of the best managers due to his ability to motivate his players and aggressive game strategies.Euro 2008, Terim's tactics, Turkish attacking mentality and Euro-2008 semi final reaching teamRecently, Terim led the Turkish national team to the semi-finals of the UEFA European Football Championship where they lost 3-2 to Germany in a thrilling encounter missing out on a place in the final. Before this game Turkey had lost 4 of its starters -keeper Volkan Demirel, midfielders Arda Turan and Tuncay Sanli, and central defender Emre Asik- to suspensions, while a further influential 5 players including the midfield ace Emre Belezoglu, most influential central defender Servet Cetin, star forward Nihat Kahveci, midfielder Tumer Metin and starting central defender Emre Gungor were lost to injuries. The Turkish National Team had only 2 healthy outfield substitutes, while Tumer Metin was on the substitute list as a last resort. Fatih Terim proved to be the masterclass tactician he is, as in this game Turkey played a brilliant attacking football against Germany. Turkey controlled most of the midfield action and thus limited the offensive capabilities of Podolski and company. After Greece's defensive minded Euro-2004 victory the Turkish national team under the leadership of Fatih Terim have brought a new mentality to European and World football: Strong midfield with control over the ball and an attacking mentality may just be the best means of defending your goal. Turkey lost to Germany with a last minute goal but in all the statistics including shots on goal, corner kicks played and other measures of attacking power Turkey dominated Germany.Professional football playerIn 1969, Terim's professional football career began as a junior player with Adana Demirspor. Because of his financial difficulties, he was the only player in the team who was being paid secretly by the club at the time. Three years later, he became the captain of the team. He recalls his first game with the captain badge:" Just before the game, I cheered up my teammates, as a captain has to do, and ran out to the field. As I looked back on the field, no one was behind me. I was so fast that nobody could follow me. I was so excited. "Terim played 6 more years with Adana Demirspor. As a successful central defender, he joined Galatasaray SK in 1974 and played for 11 years for the club. However, during his time with Galatasaray, the club was not able to win the championship trophy in the Turkish league. Terim was capped to the Turkish national team 51 times, from 1974 to 1985, and was the national team captain for 35 international games, establishing the national record for both categories at his time. He ended his playing career in Galatasaray in 1985.Abdullah Gegic, a legendary football coach with Partizan Belgrade (of former Yugoslavia) and Eskisehirspor (of Turkey), knew Terim from his days as a central defender and described Terim as an intelligent defender with Beckenbauer like qualities. Gegic attributed Terim's successes as a coach to his unique understanding of the game that was developed during his time playing as a central defender.

Aug 20, 2008 - The one and only Kaiser in the football history is and ever will be Franz Beckenbauer. :-)

Aug 20, 2008 - Good motivator, poor tactician. The day Turkey gets a truly world class coach, is the day Turkey wins something. His poor tactics causes the team to go behind and his motivation causes the team to claw back a result. If he ever has a poor motivational day then Turks lose against top opposition.

Aug 20, 2008 - Good for him, doesnt change what i said. If the guy was a great tactician we would have hammered Germany 10 nill. Not taking a proper right back to the euro was a joke, using hamit as a right back was a joke, dropping certian other players was also a joke.Your happy we made it to the semi's, im bitter that with such a wealth of talent available to Turkey we didnt win, and had to make it look hard each game. Not starting Arda against portugal is also beyound me, did it make sense to you?

remedy1984 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Also using 60+ players in the qualifying stage was also a joke. Using a different formation and players against each team we played was stupid. Getting bad results against poor teams was the iceing on the cake. losing to Greece in Istanbul was shocking, we saw how poor they really are. They shouldnt even be competition to Turkey. I could go on and on, but you've made your mind up. And don't get me started on his fantasy on using Hakan Suker over and over again. I'm glad he got dropped.

burakozcivitlover Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - what is your problem..if he is bad then how comes that turkey was third place...we also could make second place but it wasnt fatih terims fault that we didnt won...we were just unlucky that volkan couldnt play 2 games...you know that we played better against germany with so many injured and blocked players...fatih terim did his best he couldnt call new players so he let the rest play...and they played superb..

Aug 20, 2008 - I never said he was bad and by having a personal thought does not mean you have a problem.I made an extremely valid point and then backed it up. It's called a discussion. Your not obliged to agree, and thats what freedom of thought is. And if you look at what i originally said, we would "win" something if we had a coach who was well rounded, rather then having one with such obvious strengths and weaknesses.Anyway maybe we do better in the world cup.
