A country as organized and powerful like Germany would not make a motorway network like the Autobahn if it was dangerous to drive 200 km/h or more. It is the way drivers drive in Germany that allows this. To get your driver's permit you need to allow 6 months plus about 1200 €. People die in the at 70 km/h driving through a red signal and causing an accident. You could also loose control and die at 120 km/h which is the max allowed in Spain.

There is no speed limit on 40% of the highway system. 120mph roughly 190km/h isn't excessive on the autobahn, and most German cars are set up to cruise at that speed and higher (M5 comes to mind). He most likely lost control due to a wet spot or a blown out tire.

Besides, it's been proven that most accidents occur at low speed because the driver isn't alert or is bored while driving and stops paying attention. The only reason speed limits are so low IMO is because scoring a speeding ticket is easier and you put money in the pocket of those who run the system.
