Oct 11, 2008 - It isn't "the English version of Sarai Qui", it's "the original version of Sarai Qui". Sarai Qui is actually a translation of "There You'll Be" by Faith Will.

Oct 11, 2008 - You have to think about when this piece was written. Sarah had a tiny high little voice. Since leaving the world of musical theatre her voice has grown and this stuff just does not fit her voice anymore. I really am a bit over this song and wish she would stop singing it.

Oct 11, 2008 - I don't know about all those other people, but as a casual observer, that only casually has heard Sarah's singing, both songs were beautiful and not weird sounding. Weird faces on the other hand...

Oct 11, 2008 - Although it doesn't sound as perfect as when she used to sing it back in the old days, I still think Sarah does a very decent job on it, allowing for the change in her voice and vocal style since then.

Oct 11, 2008 - the problem is not the age, it's her style, but if she liked, whe would sing in a operatic style. anyway i like both

Oct 11, 2008 - Her singing is so awful nowadays. I'd rather have the fish face/super awkward hand movements than this.
Vidhun99 Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - If you'd rather have the fish face, then you also get the FAKE tone (which probably she can't even produce now due to her cords being worn out as a result of years of faking a voice colour that she doesn't naturally have). Not to mention you also get the hideous "O" technique and the incomprehensable diction a-la-HolyNight at the Vatican. I really can't get it. She either had BAD voice coaches or she's a VERY bad student. :S
Windgrace Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - Yeah, but you have to admit...it's better to have a singer who can (somewhat) sing live over one who can't. If only she could sing as she did in 1992...I don't think it's a result of bad vocal coaches...I think it's a result of her being a very poor student.

Oct 11, 2008 - Windgrace, I totally agree with you/
navinkc5 Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - She had her nodule removed. That's probably what messed her up a bit.Give her some time to get back in shape, I say. The live performance of Pie Jesu during Symphony in Vienna was much better than this, and I've no doubt that she'll get back her true voice soon.:).
navinkc5 Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - Agreed! :)
navinkc5 Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - She does have a habit of contorting into the funniest faces while performing.I guess we, as her fans, love her for it.She's cute XD.
Windgrace Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - The entire Vienna concert was lip synced. So no, I don't think she'll regain he true voice anytime soon.Am I the only one who finds it ironic that when Sarah appears in concerts she hosts herself, she sounds amazing...yet when she appears at other venues set up by someone else, she sounds horrific? This is the way it's been for over the past 5-6 years...

Oct 11, 2008 - Nelson Reid (treble) is head chorister at Washington National Cathedral, and as the last phrase proves, anything sounding "creative" in this recording is surely not him.

Oct 11, 2008 - the second song was initially sung by faith hill right, its there you'll be..

Oct 11, 2008 - yes, Pie Jesu wasn't great. I dont get why people expect her to still sing well the repetoire she did when she was very young. No, the voice isn't as good as it used to be, but she is almost 50, which is when most sopranos decide to retire. I however, thought that "There you'll be" was charming and well sung-especially the high part at the end, where she is not using the "fish face", but still has a nice amount of height and color in the voice. The a at the end is higher than Ab in Pie Jesu.
Windgrace Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - Most sopranos do not retire by their 50s...give me some examples of this. I can't think of any soprano at the moment who retired so young."There You'll Be" was slightly better than "Pie Jesu"...but only slightly. She sung the first two choruses fine (some awkward faces and difficulty breathing) but then after that the song went way downhill. Right around the "Cause I always saw in you..." is when her voice really kinda gave out, IMO.She just can't sing anymore. Simple as that.
brightmanphan Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - for example-Beverly Sills, Renata Tebaldi. Its a more rare occasion that one keeps singing into their sixties or after, and if they do its almost always with diminished voice. In any case, most retire after at most a 30 year carreer, which Sarah has already had-singing a huge variety of music in many vocal styles, and in an extremely grueling schedule. Its not hard to imagine that her voice would not be what it once was. The point is that she means a lot to a great many people.
brightmanphan Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - I would have never sung opera if not Sarah! The point is that people love her no matter what, in part for her voice and in part for what she has done for music. Classical music has more of an audience because of her. I know you have every right to express your opinion, but if you hate her, why listen to her? I for one don't like Britney Spears, but I certainly don't have time to go to her videos and write nasty comments about her. Her music means something to people, and thats all that matters!
CoolMapleStore Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - It's not that she "can't sing", it's that she "can't sing as well anymore".She used to have such a great voice, that people have massive expectations of her.I think that this was not her best, but it was definitely much better than what most people could do.

Oct 11, 2008 - Most sopranos retire at 50? Give me a break!!!! Most sopranos reach the career peak at 50. Sarah had a GREAT light/soubrette voice which she destroyed when trying to go "full" lyric by faking a darker tone...

Oct 11, 2008 - Although her performance has been downgrading these years, I can see that she is trying to improve.Great effort! There You'll Be is well sung. The voice made is better than that in Pie jesu.I hope she can regain her stunning true voice!
brightmanphan Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - ok. No point in arguing it.

Oct 11, 2008 - I think the fishy technique is better, for the sound...At 2.58 she was super!!!!
