xoxluvu4evrxox Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - that makes sense. Lune means moon and Clare look fairly similar to Clear. So clear Moon makes sense.

nerugichan Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - En Français 'Clair de Lune' est Light of the Moon; Moonlight.

Jul 26, 2008 - Why are you people complaining about Clair de Lune being associated with Twilight? No one would have heard of it if they hadn't read Twilight. So stop complaining!

Will403536 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - fuck this makes me cry

hunnykiss Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - clair de lune is french for moonlight

filthysoap Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - ok.. then so...... clair is light but also clear?

FusionWarrior Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Exactly. "Une lune claire" would mean a clear (or bright) moon, but in the phrase "Clair de lune", 'clair' is an object rather than a describing word, so it means moonlight. There is the same idea in English: 'a light moon' vs 'the light of the moon'. 'Light' is both an adjective and a noun. :)
