Oct 11, 2008 - The CPI is a BIG joke. The government's CPI says we have 2% inflation. My utilities are up 20%. Gas is up about 35%. Rent increased 25%. My grocery bill is up 25%. Unfortunately, the CPI uses several tricks to keep government salaries and retirement benefits low, but inflation is a HUGE problem in the real world.

Oct 11, 2008 - "The CPI is a BIG joke. The government's CPI says we have 2% inflation."*Two words:1.hedonics2.substitutionThe way inflation is currently measured is completely dishonest and unethical."Hedonics opens the door to producing magical results: a lower inflation rate with generally rising prices, a higher growth rate although the economy may be weaker, and a higher productivity number, although productivity would have been declining without the hedonic imputations."The Illusions of Hedonics

Oct 11, 2008 - I actually read an AP wire report on inflation this week that amazingly admitted the CPI excludes fuel and food costs...hmmm....that's a first! Do I hear the sizzle of steaks made from previously sacred cows?

lasgo45 Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - That has happened several times, and will happen several more times. If it happens to USA, or China, or whatever nation, it is just the course of history and bad decisions those nations/people made. Not every prophecy has to be fulfilled when you and I are alive. I am sure you know that, and probably don't care one way or another, but it is bad doctrine for Christians to read all prophecies into being fulfilled today.
lasgo45 Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - Yes they call it "Core Inflation" because certain elements "food and fuel" are highly volatile. You probably know that. On the flip side...if those 2 elements dropped in cost, then that would really hit the CPI in the other direction. but is that likely to happen???

Oct 11, 2008 - Lavish Pakistan Govt has rough estimate of energy and fuel utilization in the country. For example if an average of 10 million units of electricity is being consumed daily in large cities, increasing Rs 0.05 per unit gives the govt half a million rupees per day per city in the electricity bills. Of this Rs 0.05 inflation 0.03 is accounted for the stealing of tax and utilities by the ruling class and Rs 0.02 goes to the treasury. The inflation caused as a result is being enforced on a common man.

Oct 11, 2008 - those prophecies are extremely easy to predict, and pretty much anyone who takes the time can predict that. all you have to do is sit and watch the world of men and you will know that it is natural for powers to rise and fall... it is pretty much a law.
