http://www.weforum.org 19.05.2007Defining Global Citizenship: From Philanthropy to ActivismContributing to the common good takes many forms, from individual acts of philanthropy to ongoing patterns of social activism. 1) How can individual philanthropists make the best use of their resources? What successful frameworks exist inside and outside the region?2) Do companies have a responsibility to the wider community, or should they simply contribute funds to "specialist" institutions?3) What can ordinary members of society do to become active global citizens? How can such activism be encouraged?Carly Fiorina, Chairman, Fiorina Foundation, USAFadi Ghandour, Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East;Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Aramex International, JordanOmar Ghobash, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Emirates Foundation, United Arab EmiratesBarbara L. acerb45666555 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - excellent!! 5*****

pbaker123 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - So, you're suggesting they should shut up, while they're the only people having enough power to indeed MAKE a difference? Remember, exploitation starts at that level too.I would also point at Queen Raina's track record. Unlike the Gates Foundation which mainly focuses on imposing Microsoft on nations that could really do without the risk & expense, she has done a wide variety of fantastic things. Her Majesty is a shining example of how to do it right - I hope more follow her example.

Harry32531 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - It is stupid. The ones that have it all are just trying to protect what they have. They want the middle and lower working class to support make all the sacrifices.

gzyyy6 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - bring the lords laws back and use the punishments he gave for those laws to put humanity back in line with god spair the rod spoil the child

jaysonrules Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - She is a fantastic woman!

PeaceSalaam Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - They need to get busy with their free time I support their work for charity better than they get busy with wars and more poor people pay the price of their free/fun time!

kracked1nut Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - One hand can not live with out the hand of the creator. We are 5 different people's living on this planet as one, but we have no unity. shall I continue?

Alpha7000 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - In filtering your messages, why do you always prevent from being posted the POLITE messages I sent, that respectfully had a different viewpoint. My comments have been consistently prevented from being posted, when I respectfully presented a different viewpoint. Is this refusal to diversity of opinions normal? Is this excessive control not leading to a potentially dictatorial attitude? Especially when what is voiced in the video at first glance, could not sound more liberal and democratic.

jelqer Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - Yes. This is how it is done.

iberned Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - help the needy

Argonaut22j Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - Why not support a local charity then? That's not supporting "those who have it all".

designandsketch Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - poor guy king abdullah.. i would feel so much pressure with a wife like queen raina.. she does his job..

svdende Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - what a beautiful queen!

luvmusic200070 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - I respect Queen Rania's effort to help the needy. However, more effort is needed to stop the religious persecution including rape, torture, and imprisonment of Christians in some Muslim countries. For example, some Christians were deported from Jordan for practicing their beliefs. I believe in a loving and merciful God who commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Muslims, Christians, etc. should have the freedom to practice their beliefs as long as they're not forcing or killing anyone.

revgothlove Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - subtitles would've been nice...

WorldEconomicForum Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - into Arabic? Could do with video annotations. Anybody interested in translating it?

gzaly Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - Rania has been profoundly frustrated by arabic societal disgraceful realities that she was pushed into indirect desperate denial of her culture. She wants to make-for the West-an image of the Middle-East that does not exist. The Middle-East of Rania is a figment of imagination that the West would reject to believe, not for truth sake, but because the West wants the Middle-East to remain backwarded region inspite of all kind ingratiating initiatives and quests of the well-spoken Jordanian Queen.

revgothlove Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - in the english parts that might be a good idea yes...but also there are parts where they speak arabic and there is no english subtitles

loonaki Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - well queen rania is not trying to deny her culture .. but she's projecting the TRUE civility and respect of her culture and religion.. the civilization the west brags about was introduced to them by US arabs .. as well as other middle eastern civilizations.. and indeed she is thanked for her effort

beverly555 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - Gzaly, you wrote a lot, but God what are you saying? Stop babbling, and talk some sense.

bilaprem21 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - Religion is about compassion...

ushkhan Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - actions speak louder than words

homer30 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - How many schools were bombed during the Iraq war? How many houses where destroyed? How many innocent children died by american forces? How poor is Iraq now as american forces continue its occupation there? This is the result of businesses trying to destroy a country so that they can get in there and exploit its resources so that a CEO in NewYork can seat in his car in a traffic jam. This is a significant cause of poverty in poorest countries.

homer30 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - They talk a lot about charity, how to save poor countries from sinking more and yet they neglect Imperialism, american imperialism in particular as a significant cause of poverty. How can a business say they want to help the poor when their main objective is to gain more capital? How can a business say we gonna build school in Iraq but first we have to destroy your country so that we can plant a new economic system that will conform to American imperialist system?
