legodesi Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - He is saying that prosperity is in no way any part of the promise of the Gospel. Jesus didn't come to make bad people good or even poor people rich. He came to make dead people live. When scripture says let the poor say I am rich, it says that the poor man's riches are in the provisions of God, and that the weak man's strength is in the grace of God.

legodesi Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - You haven't at all looked at the context of his statements. He said that worship in the midst of suffering, as in the loss of a child, brings God glory - much more than the worship of God in prosperity. He hasn't at all encouraged poverty.

atestring Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - legodesi,Of course he does not want poverty. He just does not want groups outside of his circle to prosper. He does not have a problem with the folfs in Mountain Brook Alabama prospering wince they folks that preach good news to the poor to prosper. They throw a kink in ihis hyper sovereignty teaching.

legodesi Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - what?? There's no such good news in the bible to promise prosperity.

konkord3 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Here in Croatia thank to God evangelicals are mostly united against this message of prosperity.

josefchristman Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Hey side note: anybody know what the song is playing in the background? Thanks and God bless

jbstuff Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Not surprised that this comment got a -2 rating. Some people are uncomfortable with the notion that Jesus preferred the company of prostitutes and sinners than flag-waving, self-righteous religious elites."Woe unto those who are rich... Woe unto those who are well fed." The Lord says.

whatdoyoureckon Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - If it wasn't for America's God-given prosperity, the Allies could scarcely have achieved victory in World Wars I & II. We wouldn't have the opportunity to attend church peacefully like we have today. We probably wouldn't even be alive. So even those today who persecute prosperity, in a round-about sort of way also celebrate it.

dtan117 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - well, it isn't that anyone is against being prosperous, it is the fact that some believe we DESERVE it

fredstime Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - whatdoyoureckonI am not against prosperity. Paul even wanted us to prosper as our soul prospers. I am against so-called-ministers who twist the Bible to preach a prosperity Gospel. They have created an idol. Money is their first love, because it is always and forever on their lips. They teach it, focus on it, proclaim it, and meditate on it. Listen to the Best Buy Commercial's song, because it is the same as the prosperity preacher's, "I want it all and I want it now!"That's wicked

atestring Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I never believed in total depravity sinc I have met athiest that were good people but after hearing piper imply that the pigs should die and baby's should be miscarried i think John Piper is totally depraved.

loonytoon500 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - you misunderstand. Piper does not think pigs should die and babies should be miscarried. Piper knows those things are the result of the fall, and when Jesus comes he will make things right. Pipers main point is that the prosperity "gospel" is void of Christ, and his crucifiction and centers on man, and mans desires, NOT what Christ has done. That is no gospel at all.

pennyrosy Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Such an incredible message! What happens to people who believe that God only gives good things when something bad inevitably happens to them? If they don't have a solid foundation in who God really is, their faith fails during trials. We have to be discerning Christians centered on the Word of God rather than fictional manmade "gospels".

atestring Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - come on loonytoon he said it !Listen to this video. Prosperity is not void of Christ Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith. He is the source of supply.

loonytoon500 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Although its true that God is our supplier, Christ didnt die so you could live rich and happy. Christ died because we are sinful human being desperately in need of a savior. Any gift you receive in supplement to his gift of salvation is secondary... to make his gifts the focus is idolatry.. Christ is the center. NOT his gifts.

BrilIiance Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - What an unbelievably profound message.Thank God for John Piper.

huckster271 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I was confused about the little girl going through the windshild and being killed...what was the message there?

undivided809 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - it's when you lose everything that you love and still be able to say that "God is enough".

GruntingAragorn Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - We all agree right, that the promises for Abraham are now also for us? (Paul made this very clear in Romans and Galatians). So what is this promise according to you all? Another question: Does God wants to bless us with prosperity or not?

b0nafidex1 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - he was saying that God is most glorified when you praise Him even through hardships, trials, tribulations and dismay. When you realize that even through the hard and tough times, He is always the most soveraign, kind and loving Go, and NOT only when/if you're driving a BMW
