People have guns and knives and bombs and those work fine against abuse to themselves. I happen to have 5 dogs and 5 cats and I would do anything possible to protect them and (almost) every other animal on earth that was being abused but sadly I cant. I'm only 14. So, I just donate to animal shelters which isn't quite good enough but at least it helps.
