Jul 26, 2008 - Yes, I love our Alcos, but I'll take one of your class 50 "Hoovers" any day out on the mainline through Woking.

Jul 26, 2008 - Great shot...nice to see something decently sized passing through Stroudsburg again on a regular basis.Slightly off topic to you Stroudsburg local people--when did they remove the remnants of the old manual crossing gate apparatus? It's beemn close to 10 years since I've been there myself, and I see on the video that they're gone. HOPEFULLY someone was able to save them before they hit the dumpster.

Jul 26, 2008 - Check with the East Stroudsburg Railroad Tower Society as to the wherabouts of historical items. They have done a great job preserving and restoring the tower.

Jul 26, 2008 - Why do they use 2 locos?american locos can pull really heavy loads.steep grades? switching purposes?
tpvalley Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - I know the owner of 50027, had a look round its engine room etc, nice place where its kept, a steam railway, the steam fans r often a bit anti diesel sometimes.
rollinswitch Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - Steep grades up over the Poconos both ways so two have more horsepower and better braking.

Jul 26, 2008 - Westinghouse "blat" horn, one of the first to be used on diesels in the U.S. My guess is the forward unit is of NYC heritage which used them commonly.
choirboyfromhell Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - So can anybody tell me the actual mechanical difference between a RS-32 and the apparent Canadian version, the RS-18?
