Jul 26, 2008 - onboard videos are always a bit distorted in comparison to reality. i'm sure the rider was very good and the camera doesn't do justice to reveal everything he looked at, which is why it looks more dangerous than it really was. although i think in some parts he was a couple inches away at high speed between 2 trucks, which i think is little bit too close unless you have confidence in your setup, skill, and knowledge of all the turns.

Jul 26, 2008 - True enough, which is why I don't ride like that in the U.S., which has a violent culture where such things happen. I lane split in California, but only where traffic is *totally* stopped, so that violent people would have to do something really blatant to smash me. But in Japan it's completely safe because someone who "accidentally" wiped out a motorcyclist would lose face and be ostracized, so culturally it just won't happen.
