Nov 18, 2008 - yes i see how the 99 christians to every pagan puts you at such a disadvantage
bethangel2539 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - "That was inspiring. I really hope your message in this song breaks wide open, and that you have continued success in your career. -- A Wiccan."I'm with the Wiccan on this one. -- A Christian.
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I'm sure you've done your homework or you wouldn't be attacking me like this, so how many times have you read the koran? I've read enough to confidently say that indeed muhammad DID tell his people to kill nonbelievers and inposed taxes too high for them to pay. Either convert or you'll pay mentality. I dare not think you'd open your mouth just to regurgitate what the mainstream media tells you, would you? If you want to talk about hate read your comment as opposed to mine, which sounds hateful?
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - How can you be so confident when every religion claims exclusivity? Did God lie to all his prophets then?
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - entity does not explicitly imply a personage, it implies only that something exists. So exascia is correct, yet you did not address his/her statement, only her words. That shows what you know.
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Consider this, in the name of native religion, millions and millions of Native Americans were sacrificed to appease their gods. Look what the inca and mayans did, if you want to blame anyone for wholesale slaughter of natives, look to the natives. Kinda puts things in perspective doesn't it?
TombeMan Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - She/he did imply that Wicca is a being. If it were to refer to a collective (as you are saying)the statement would make even less sense - seeing as there is no central dogma in Wicca, the intellectual property of the various groupings cannot all be clumped together and called "intellectually dead" because it varies too much.
guitarhero555 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Do i need to follow every guideline of my religion? no. god gave us free will to think for ourselves and not go strictly by what the church tells us. How can you be so ignorant? Do you realize that every religion has the same view, that there always right and that their the only ones to go to heaven. how can that be true? thats just ridiculous its so arrogant to believe that truly your religion is the "chosen one". Its beliefs like that that make people fight wars
bethangel2539 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Excuse me, Hulk, but if I may, you are making multiple generalizations. One is that all Native Americans kill each other (hasn't every race killed others of its own?)Second, the Mayans, Incas, and the Natives that were killed during the colonization of the United States are all different. Creeks, Seminoles, Sioux, etc. Individuals are different within those different groups. Think before you generalize.
outfitmadeofawesome Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Don't blame those who sacrifice, don't go and say that they killed each other.in those cultures people thought differently, it wasn't murder, is was in the name of their gods. That may sound horrible to some, but it's also pretty bad to kill those who don't share the same belief as you.Whitefolk kill in the name of God plenty, hell some of us kill in the name of fun, or in the name of property, or justice...You shoudn't speak poorly of things you don't understand.
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I appreciate your criticism and indeed you are correct, i concede that i have generalized. But indeed was my response not one in defence of a generalization? To not listen to christians because they killed native americans, correct? What I meant to illustrate is that his statement is also an absurd generalization about christians. Consider that before you criticize my intent.
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - If you look into the history, the ones being sacrificed weren't volunteers. So if i follow your reasoning, they did it because god told them to? But since they shared the same religion (which i must add, is highly unlikely) it was okay? I wonder if you understand that which you rally against, friend.
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Perhaps it is the lack of unity among your religion, if it may be called that, that he found so "intellectually dead". If there are no uniting tenants to follow, then why group them under the wiccan banner?
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - A valid argument with one minor flaw; What is good? Is good doing the least evil? but then, what is evil? Each religion, and I dare say each person, might have differing views on the matter. Are Islamic terrorists going to heaven? They're promised 72 virgins, and to them, they're doing the best deeds according to their tenants for faith. What say you?
TombeMan Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - There most certainly are tenants to follow - these however differ from denomination to denomination, but all share the idea of not harming. A religion is not only a collection of tenants, it also shares history, methods of worshiping etc. Not all religions are dogmatic. Does that answer your question?
IncredibleHulk12 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Indeed. So would you say that the different sects differ as much as say a Lutheran and a Methodist?
bethangel2539 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - If you kill a terminally ill cancer patient, is it still murder? That is what we are basically arguing. We can never technically take a person's life, seeing as we all die at some point anyway. We can only take time from their lives.Considering this, murder is no less murder when the person would have died by nature, their own hand, the hand of their own people, or the hand of some one from another 'group'.
DaystarDragon Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I don't know how to respond to you. I mean, I wholy agree with the second bit of your comment, but while I agree with the first bit's logic it scares me that you're right. Also, my morals suggest that killing is wrong. Then again, in a lot of those sacrifices they helped people to survive, so the whole lesser of two evils thing...I don't know. But +:thumb:
Sacredor Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Hate to sound like a fluff bunny, but this song is the most emotionally uplifting thing I've heard in a long time, and an inspiration for us all.
starsailor71 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - This is what happens when a brilliant artist such as Dar writes and performs so eloquently: it sparks heated debate. Will this shitstorm of commentary solve the worlds' problems? Um... NO! Neither is Dar Williams making any attempt to do anything like that, but, ya know? There are millions of folks like me she touches deeply within our hearts with what she communicates. We identify with her stories and characters... and yes, it certainly is "emotionally uplifting". Goddess bless Dar Williams.

Nov 18, 2008 - I heard this song a couple years ago but no one could tell me who sang it. I am glad to have found this, thank you for posting it. It is something both Christians and Pagans can learn from.
guitarhero555 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - theres more than one path to heaven bud it doesnt matter what you believe as long as you have faith in your god and do good deeds
