Nov 18, 2008 - Billy Cobham MAKES UP HIS SOLOS on the spot. It's called Improvisation. You know. PLAYING. Solos are to be created on the spot, not transcribed ahead of time. That's the difference between a session player and an ARTIST/SOLOIST/MASTER.

Nov 18, 2008 - This is music!Awesome vid!

Nov 18, 2008 - Good observation about Cobham. Double kicks became his niche. There are so many other things Vinnie does better than Billy though. Billy stated in an interview several years back that it was Vinnie that other drummers should be listening to as someone who had great command of a drumset.

Nov 18, 2008 - With all my respect to Tommy, to his solo carier and/or/xor DP. With particular video is not about GiTaR. It is about DRUMS. Sorry, Jeff. You are here just a vitness of awesome DRUM player.

Nov 18, 2008 - What?? No, I think you must be confusing concentration with ability. As Shakespeare once wrote, "Thou art talking bollocks, sire, and thou knowest it!"
Funkyrdory Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Great stuff, the more I hear of Jeff Beck, the more impressed I am. In interviews he comes across as a really down to earth guy, none of that egotistical rock star shit that you get with many of the new breed, none of whom produce anything as of the wall as Beck does. Thanks for posting this.M

Nov 18, 2008 - Vinnie, at 50, is pumping out more intensity than any 20-year-old I've EVER heard!!!!!! This guy is Awesome beyond belief. Still the best drummer in the world! Way beyond anybody playing today. WAAAY beyond!!!!!

Nov 18, 2008 - dude. don't think you get slack as you get older. i'm 42 and i could crap on dudes half my age( check my vid's and see 4 yourself). i've never played as good when i was younger as i'm playing now. as you get older you get better! if you play i just gave you something to look forward to. if you've seen guys get slack in their playing its because they've stopped searching 4 challenges not because they've gotten older.
marc777danielle Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - checked your page and you know what i'm talking about. you're only 2 years older than i.
hueseph Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Yeah marc777. I toatally agree. I could think of a number of players who just keep getting better. Beck being one of them. I'm a way better player than I was in my twenties but nowhere near as good as I should be considering how long I've been playing. I'm looking forward to improving not slacking!
marc777danielle Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - i don't know how old you are but you've definately got something 2 look 4ward 2. i've heard mike clark interview someone and their general consensus was that drummers really peak in their 60s. i understand where you're coming from as far as not being where you should be. i stopped for 10 yrs and just started playing @ my wifes encouraging (mainly cause i was driving her crazy) 4 years ago. i just dusted the cobwebs off and it was like it never left.
marc777danielle Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - the only difference is now i have yrs of just listening 2 music 2 help me 2 play more tasteful.
Domothy Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I can't help but feel that Vinnie is overplaying the drums
brotzo Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Yes, his intensity is infectious. It makes me want to go bash some funky grooves right now......but, I agree, he overplayed in that he strayed from the form of the song going out on some wild tangent fills and parts that did not mesh with the rest of the band. But, oh to be able to play like!!!!!
Emeraldjazzlady Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I agree with you. The guy is amazing. Did you check out the video with Vinnie, Dave Weckl and Steve Gadd!! God bless all of them!!!
liennto Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - your words just made my day. i played from age 10 to 20, then stopped. like a bitch. now i'm 32 and just got a space to play 5 months ago and i've practiced at least a few hours every day since. leaps and bounds! i'm doing stuff i never thought i could. playing drums religiously is the best way to cruise into the future... i get giddy to imagine how crushing i'll be when i'm 42. such a great way to look forward to aging!
datics Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - who ist the bassmann?
drblank1 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - If you look at Vinnie while he is doing double kick stuff, he is struggling, Billy would do that stuff all night long cracking up and not even breaking a sweat..
