Nov 18, 2008 - Did Socrates exist?
coreva Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - God the Father doesnt hav 2 reveal His Son 2 u. God owes us nothing. We r sinful creatures deserving condemnation. If God the Father reveals God the Son 2 a person then it is simply an act of grace. Apart from grace there will never be anything 2 convince u that Jesus exists.Mat 19:25 When His disciples heard, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? Mat 19:26 But Jesus looked on them and said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
azulag Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Hmmm! Jesus never existed huh? That's strange because our calender surrounds the birth of Christ. B.C. is before Christ and A.D. stands for Anno Domini which means "year of our Lord". Looks like a pretty big event for somebody that doesn't exist.
JohnLArmstrong Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - BC and AD were 6th century inventions.
azulag Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - The point is that it was common knowledge that Jesus existed.
JohnLArmstrong Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - QUOTE: "The point is that it was common knowledge that Jesus existed."Not according to the Bible.Read 1John 4 and 2John. Apparently, there was such a problem with "false Christians" professing to follow a Jesus that had never come in the flesh that John railed against them in two separate letters. Interesting how John uses faith-based language in these tracts to indignantly insist that Jesus had come in the flesh ("believe" and "confess") (as opposed to pointing out an obvious reality).

Nov 18, 2008 - there is a God...and his name is not JohnLArmstrongthats the whole story. Jesus thinks this video sucks by the way lol
azulag Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - John is speaking of His deity, Jesus the Christ coming in the flesh. As today many non christian people believe in the person of Jesus just not in His deity.

Nov 18, 2008 - Thank you for posting this - so refreshing to hear speaking with logic and facts rather than fear and zealotry. I will definitely check out your website. looks like you stirred up quite a bit of interest here judging by the amount of comments here.. good job! lol

Nov 18, 2008 - part 1A Jesus book:Thats using human logic. Not plausible.Hear say testimonies Try eye witnesses. And 300 prophecies from the Old Testament. You really need to read I dont have enough faith to be an Atheist by Norm Geisler and Frank Turek. Debate them if you dare.Dude, after He died is when He rose from the Dead! Also, thats when the Holy Spirit was given and 1000s were converted including the disciples! Thats when the writings would obviously begin! After the miracles!
emptywithoutjesus Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - part 2Youre supposing that Christians forged a historians account that worked for the Roman Government? Are you mad?! They were under tremendous persecution. Whats there motive to prove Jesus existed? More persecution? If you recall the Jews had the tomb secured and those bold Christians you just mentioned were in hiding.Im glad you mentioned your firm belief in the truth. You really need to read that book. Many forms of Christianity You simply told me when cults started.
emptywithoutjesus Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - part 3How could Gnostics be the original Christians? Youd have to prove to us that the Gnostic founder was one of the 12 disciples. Commentators agree that John in the book of 1 John was referring to Gnostics at various times throughout his letter. John was an original disciple. Urban legends dont make people born again. They dont make people willingly die and/or suffer persecution for no wrong committed.I am not trying to debate you. I was simply referred to this site by someone.
JohnLArmstrong Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - QUOTE: "Youd have to prove to us that the Gnostic founder was one of the 12 disciples"Or that the 12 were as fictitious as their alleged savior. QUOTE: "Urban legends dont make people born again. They dont make people willingly die and/or suffer persecution for no wrong committed."You're using church folklore to prove mythology. In any event, even IF the early Christians were persecuted, it proves nothing. Fanatics die for crazy religions all the time even in the modern day.

Nov 18, 2008 - he never existed, the world is full of dumb, pathetic people, sorry for my words but its sad. I believe somehow that there's a God, but he is a being/soul/spirit that is very different to what common christian people believe! How about this, if the Bible was the word of God then, why the heck it doesn't talk about the creation of other beings in other planets, and there history? it seems is contradicting my beliefs in life elsewhere in the universe! i also believe greatly in reincarnation :b.

Nov 18, 2008 - Did Socrates exist?
JohnLArmstrong Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - QUOTE: "Did Socrates exist?"If he didn't, someone had to write that philosophy. Is your theory that another Greek philosopher used the name "Socretes" as a pen-name? His philosophy would work just as well if he never existed, so it makes no difference.Jesus on the other hand...
QuietJuggler Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - My point is that none of the extant words of Socrates we have today were written down by him personally. All we have are Plato's and Xenophon's accounts and writings, and smatterings of Aristotle, kind of. Three sources, none the orginal voice. But Socrates is easily accepted as a true historical, influential figure who actually existed. I think that in this way, the fact that Jesus didn't pen anything doesn't necessarily weigh against his existence.
JohnLArmstrong Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - QUOTE: "I think that in this way, the fact that Jesus didn't pen anything doesn't necessarily weigh against his existence."Was Socrates on a mission from God to save all the souls of humanity?Higher standard here needs to apply.
JohnoEAL Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - "Why would Christians need to burn books that are critical of Christianity? And why would they need to torture heretics? Only LIES require LIES... only LIES require the suppression of debate. The TRUTH POINTS TO ITSELF!!! The TRUITH generates it's own evidence!!! The TRUTH invites debate!!!"ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON!! HEAR HEAR!!! Attempting to have an intelligent discussion with a Christian is like trying to teach nuclear physics to a brick.
QuietJuggler Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I don't see that it does. You've placed that idea into the argument based on your idea of a certain way that things should've played out according to You [because of the Christ's purpose, he should've written something]. All that really says is how you would've done something if you were Jesus, which proves little of anything.

Nov 18, 2008 - "starting a war" am i the one who posted this hate video? no. was i impending on science? no. im not busting on science or anything and stop naming off terible sterotypes about christians. thos r only certain denomenations r against homosexuals. and no one ever persucated homosexuals because its not illegal. and i have never heard of a christian fying a plane into a building. ur the one trying to start a war. what ur saying is horrible. u dont see me trying to disprove science.
alexander924 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - u are so right. i cant stand when people try to battle this out. im a chrstian. i like to be left alone. i dont bother u, u shouldn't bother me.
JohnLArmstrong Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - QUOTE: "i have never heard of a christian fying a plane into a building."Islam is the Arabic Christianity. Not a dime's worth of difference. And tell me if the technology wasn't around circa 1300 that Christians wouldn't have used it. Christians seem to be more peaceful now but that's only because they don't have the power here that the Muslims have in certain nations. History has shown us that both Protestants and Catholics can be inspired to great violence and cruelty.
JohnLArmstrong Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - QUOTE: "im a chrstian. i like to be left alone. i dont bother u, u shouldn't bother me."Unfortunately, not enough Christians feel the same way. The "militant atheism" (led by Dawkins, Harris, et. al.) is a reaction to the right wing Christian takeover of politics in our country.
