Nov 18, 2008 - Then again, Orson was unprofessional. He's wasting time by being confrontational over minutiae. If he weren't a celebrity of such calibre, his butt would've been fired. However, Orson would leave a bad impression that may make those who worked with him think twice about hiring him again.Don't argue with the director and the script. Just try to make the best of it if you have nothing constructive to improve it.Don LaFontaine, R.I.P., would've taken this guy to school on professionalism.

Nov 18, 2008 - This reminds me of the 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast. lol

GreenDestiny7 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - My friend gave me a cut of this on an audio tape when I was in HS, from a radio station. I later heard it on Negativland's 'Happy Heroes' off the track 'Jolly Green Giant' while in college. Funny stuff. If you like the cut here, support Negativland and listen to there remix.

Nov 18, 2008 - It's the editing of this bit which makes it so great. Well timed and executed.

hypernation2007 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - GOOD WORK GREEN! I never new Negativland did one. I'm so tracking that down right now.

Nov 18, 2008 - BRAVO, ORSON. BRAVO!!!

baarbear Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - If I'm not mistaken, it's this commercial that gave rise to the Pinky and the Brain skit "Yes, Always".

KuroKakumei Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - You are correct. The Pinky and the Brain episode was taken directly from this recording.

doobiesmoke15 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Is that the fat guy that did the show about Nostradamus?

zprodigy Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Thats just stupid. "In July?" Id love to know how you emphasize "in" in "in July". Impossible! Meaningless!

invictus990 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Welles wasn't a 'celebrity', he was one of the formative forces behind radio and film, as we know it. He set the bar against which much is still measured, and to call him unprofessional, despite his behavior, is almost self-contradictory. A few other things-1. One of the people he's arguing with is not the director, but a PA.2. No one ever schooled Welles, I suspect Don LaFontaine, like anyone else who knows what's what, would have been proud to work with him under any circumstances.

Watcher3223 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - "He was one of the formative forces behind radio and film." I'd say that earns him a celebrity status. As for unprofessional, that's exactly what I'm calling it, despite his achievements. You're supposed to do the best you can with the material you've got. If there are problems, you should find ways to constructively improve it.Going off the handle and walking out of a recording session without good reason is unprofessional, plain and simple, as it wastes your client's time and money.

Watcher3223 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - And I noticed negatives under my original comment.Well, people should understand that voice over is a competitive business with lots of extraordinary talent and little work to go around.Unless you earned a particular celebrity status that makes your talents particularly valuable (and even then, a bad attitude can earn you a bad stigma that may make people think twice about hiring you again), you can expect never to work in the field again if you ever act like Mr. Welles did in this session.

bigpopparamma Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - He said "Yes" like the Brain.

RonaldMacK Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - The character of The Brain was based on Orson Welles.

NotRegret Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - i think these are brilliantly written commercials, wells has no taste

deltapunk21 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - "Go down on you" lol

bigpopparamma Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Oh I know that The Brain was based on Orson Welles. The conversation was used in a skit in "Pinky and the Brain", which they edited or replaced the profane words.

sserpent21 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - yes ALWAYS! Those peas have great peaness to them.

PunkyBear36 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Ha Ha! "Crumb Crisp Coating"

animal6774 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Another vote for Negativland's "Jolly Green Giant", which takes this clip and makes it sound almost eerie by superimposing it over ominous sounding music. I sympathise with Orson, but I guess he took the job so he should have done it to the best of his abilities. "This is a lot of shit, you know that?" lol:-)
