The guitar solo is considered by many to be one of the greatest of all time.Dickey Betts wrote this about his Native American girlfriend, Sandy "Bluesky" Wabegijig. And for a while, Betts refused to perform this after his 1975 divorce with Sandy, whom he wrote this for. Betts and Sandy Bluesky had a daughter, Jessica, on May 14, 1972. Betts wrote "Jessica" about her a year later.Although Duane Allman was part of the recording of this song, he died before its release on Eat A Peach. The album is dedicated to him. Duane Allman and Dickey Betts played on the bridge solo - Duane going first followed by Dickey. They switch up half way through - listen very carefully and you will hear them synch up on a riff for two measures or so right around 2:30 into the track. This is the first time Dickey Betts sang in an Allman Brothers song.http://www.hittinthenote.com/cart/pc-369-51-dickey-betts-great-southernbrback-where-it-all-beginsbrdvdcd.aspx

Nov 18, 2008 - That is so cool! They are my favorite band of all time.. I would have loved to have been there. I sure hope Dickey and Gregg end their feud someday so they can play together again. I saw them in 99 when Dickey was still with them, and it was beautiful. I have seen the ABB 3 times since, and although still great, they are missing something without Betts there. I sure hope they get together again.

Nov 18, 2008 - Blue Sky is my favorite Allman Brother song. No one plays it like him. Dickey Betts is one of the best. Ive seen the Bros. 10 times, 7 times with Dickey Betts and 3 times with their current lineup. I preferred the ones with Dickey, they had more of rock/country feel to them and it was an outdoor party. The current lineup, although they are virtuosos, it sounds like a jazz show. They often go off into space and it does not have the same feel.

Nov 18, 2008 - It is somewhat different, there is no disputing that, and I think that you have described the contrast well. When Great Southern is "on" they give as great a show as there is on earth and sound much like the former ABB sound. The ABB have moved back toward their very early sound when the band was quarterbacked by Duane - his was the jazzy/spacey influence (Jai, too).

Nov 18, 2008 - Saw them in 1975 at Oakland Coliseum. I won 2 backstage passes at Tower Records. Limo ride with date, dozen roses fro her. Went with President of Capricorn Records, DJ Dana Jang from 98.5 FM (KOME) and we hung out with entire band in dressing room with Betts, and Greg, then went backstage. Saw Cher across stage but never met her... Awesome!!!!!

Nov 18, 2008 - MAN dickey IS SO GREAT!! wARREN AND dEREK ARE GREAT PLAYERS BUT i FEEL LIKE THE SO CALLED aLLMAN bROS. JUST DONT HAVE THE SOUL POWER. I SAW DICKEY HERE IN VEGAS DOWNTOWN FREEMONT ST. IN 2005. IT WAS INSANELY GREAT. DANCED WITH 2 HOT HIPPIE CHICKS AND GOT DRUNK OFF MY ASS MAN...LOL...

birdleson Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I haven't liked a Bros. show since they kicked Dickey out. I was at his last show with the band, where he had to leave the stage after 3 songs. They announced that it was kidney stones, but he was too loaded.
