The point should be to keep them out of the hands of criminals (which you can never be 100% certain) and not just banning assault weapons because the ban never addressed anything legitimate. It was a feel good law. Made people feel good.. didn't accomplish anything. The law abiding people aren't the problem. Arm them against the criminals. The criminals won't go after someone who may have a .38 in their pocket and an AK in the trunk.
